on my 2015 S-Class with 44k miles. Ive noticed that sometimes when I am at a stop, the engine throttles down and the RPM guage goes to zero. Kinda reminds me of how the hybrid cars behave though mine is not a hybrid. The engine does seem to restart when I push the gas pedal. Car doesnt behave this way all the time, just sometimes. Can anyone provide me with any feedback to explain this???
Thats the engine start/stop feature. At a stop the engine turns off and when you go it turns back on again to save fuel.
You can turn it off with the lowest button on the right side (the A with a circle around it) but you have to turn it off every time you drive the car, once you restart it defaults back to on:
This is absolutely fantastic information. I thought it might be something of that sort. But it is great to know that button which turns that feature off. Thanks again for responding.

And don’t be surprised if sometimes the engine starts up all of a sudden by itself. It does this at times to support the A/C compressor.
There are a lot of different sensors that feed this system. Engine operating temperature, auxiliary battery charge, etc., etc. But when it is operating, it does it very smoothly IMO. Many people don't like it and always turn it off. But I like it so leave it alone and use it.
