Tires

How often do you replace tires?
Do you replace all four at once?
Why do you replace them? Vibration or noise?

Tires should be replaced once they hit 3-4/32 of tread, which is a little above the wear bars. If you've been rotating them properly, then they should all be worn evenly.....so all 4 should be replaced at the same time.

You don't. You will do 2 sets of rears to get to fronts. In other words it usually works out to 1 rear, then 1 rear and front, or all 4. Then rears, then all 4. Usually. This works within the same brand. If you are switching do all 4 at once, but rears will go first.

Replace tires no later when any part of tread at wear bar.
You can replace earlier all you want; as just money at that point
Best to replace at least 2 tires on an axle as a minimum
unless you have a non-repairable tire (nail thru sidewall) and other tire on axle is pretty new with plenty of tread left (I say 75% tread left)

but best to replace all 4 at same time so tread depth about the same and hence car handling in the wet/dry and balanced front to rear.

Rotate if you can (same size tire and wheel) this helps even out wear and keep the tire tread warranty in tack.

He didn't say what size wheels he has. If they are 18's, then he can rotate front to back. It appears that he has 4matic based on his description, so they should technically wear fairly evenly even if he has the staggered 19 or 20" setup.

I’m a bit wacko about tires and I replace my mine way sooner than later. I usually replace them at about 15,000 to 18,000 miles and the way I drive, my old tires usually look near new when I take them off. The 18” Bridgestone QuietTrack tires I have been running, only cost about $1,000.00 for a set of four when Costco runs their sale and I much prefer to drive on the first half of tire life than the second half. New tires are quieter, ride better and offer a bit more peace of mind when driving out of town. I run non-RFT and carry a compact spare, jack & tool kit in my trunk. With these expensive vehicles that we drive and the safety of ourselves and our loved ones at stake, I feel that a new set of premium tires is one of the cheapest forms of insurance. YMMV.

I seem to be getting 2 years from a set of tires. The rears down at the wear bars, the fronts close enough to the wear bars to be replaced.
My fronts would not last 2 sets of rears so I replace them all.
I replace them due to wear. I have not had a tire go into vibration modes or cause enough noise to worry about.

I got 4+ years and 21,000 miles out of the OE Goodyear F1 run flats on my '16 S550 coupe. I replaced all four with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 ZPs. Now we'll see how the Michelins do after a few years.

Why throw that crappy little spare in your trunk? It looks like it can easily shift around in there and it takes up valuable space in our smallish trunks.

I think you'd be better off getting the Smart Spair Plus Flat Tire Repair Kit from Slime. It's good for up to 100 miles of driving, plugs all holes up to 1/4 inch in diameter, doesn't do any harm to the TPMS sensors, and easily cleans up with a rag or shop towels when you take the tire in for repair.

Plus the added bonus of not having to change your tire on the side of the road.

If you hit a road hazard, such as a major pothole or an object that has fallen into the roadway, you have a chance that your tire may become shredded, your wheel cracked or severely bent. The stories here are numerous of drivers being stranded by damaged wheels. No can of sealant is going to help you in such a case. My "crappy little spare" is out of a W221 S550 and fits perfectly. It does not move around in my trunk and provides great peace of mind when driving out of metro areas.

If you don't have that thing strapped down, I really don't see how that thing wouldn't shift around in your trunk when accelerating, braking, and taking turns. I assume you're not a golfer nor travel with much luggage.

If you ruin a rim or blowout a sidewall, that's what MB roadside assistance or AAA is for.

Who gets your old tires?
they are valuable if you get rid of them that early.
How much tread left with that kind of mileage?
My guess is it starts with 9/32 to 10/32" tread brand new depending on size.
check tire specs here:
Bridgestone Turanza QuietTrack (tirerack.com)

Only QuietTrack I could find.
Dayum Warranty is 80K miles /5yrs which is @ 2/32 tread dpeth.

So if you change that early my guess is tires have another 60K left in them easy or more then you have them for...

PLease please let them be my tire size...

I always take my old tires with me. I put them on Craigslist and can usually get around $200.00 to $300.00 for them.

100% agree. I hit a pretty good porthole and this happened to my wheel. This will not seal no matter what. Trashed wheel

That wheel might be repairable by a decent wheel repair shop.

Having a small spare like Streamliner is very useful for road trips. Couple reasons for that. If the sidewall of a tire is cut (larger cut) it can't be repaired with tire fix kit nor can a run flat still be used for any distance. You are stuck. A tow is required to the next town which will not have the needed tire in stock. Side effect of online businesses is that local tire inventories have more or less disappeared. The chance of having your car damaged by some clueless tow truck driver is reasonably high. 4Matics can't be towed and scuffed/damaged bumpers are a common occurrence.

That said for anything local tirefix kits are the way to go
