Talking BMW 750i??

I had the unfortunate experience to be driving behind a white 2021 750i today. I guess I had never seen one in person or just never paid attention. But my oh my!! It is the butt-ugliest luxury car I've seen in a looonngg time. That rear end with it's black inserts and grossly over-size exhaust holes built into the bumper look like they belong in a bad video game. Kim Kardashian's rear end would be proud.

Then I got in front of it and saw the front end. Yikes!! What the hell was BMW ever thinking letting that design escape from the design studio and into production?

That car looks like it took a trip to the top of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down. Ugh!!

Our W222's look absolutely stunning compared to the butt-ugly 750i.

Rant over.

I had a 2017 7 before my S560 (I do bounce between the two from time to time). There really isn't much comparison as an overall vehicle. The BMW guys scream performance performance performance. That's literally all that matters. And they are right- as a performance vehicle the 7 is better. But that's not what it's about. If you have a 7/S you have the toy for when you want to be spirited. When dealing with a flagship product based on luxury I'm sorry to say but performance is second to luxury, Don't talk to me about turn in and steering feel when the seats are church pews and the interior is low rent. The S class is leagues ahead of the 7 in the 'luxury experience' department. The 7 series competes on price- they discount the ***** out of the car and give ridiculous deals on leases. And from time to time you get sucked in and say let me give it a shot for half the cost of an S. And in a few months your lust wanders back to home...

A BMW and the S can coexist in the same garage. As long as the BMW isn’t ugly ;-) That ‘21 750i is horrendous but I do like the look of the M5. It has managed to escape the new BMW beaver grill too.

The new Bimmer's have very "in your face" styling, kind of like what Lexus is trying to do. It shouldn't be much of a surprise that sales of both brands are down. The new Benz designs, especially their cars have very bland and generic looking exteriors. And now the interiors are just odd and out of place for an S-class. I don't think they will do all that well either, especially since Genesis is building attractive cars and will likely sway many buyers away from the Germans and Lexus. Now I know that Genesis doesn't use the same high end materials that Benz does, but they do offer better looking cars than the new gen of MB and much lower price points. I think that will be enough to sway many luxury buyers....kind of like what Lexus did to MB in the '90's.

I don't care for the look of modern BMWs at all. But if a buyer wants a car that is the size of our S-class, but is looking for something with a more sporting character, the BMW is a good choice (if you can live with the looks, and many can). I test drove a 2018 and 2015 750 when shopping around for cars--they handle very well, and the 4.4TTv8 is very potent!

When I was looking it came down to the 750 and the S560. I actually love the looks of the 7 Series, IMO its a better looking car than the non AMG trim W222. The 7 has a low, long square look thats a lot more aggressive than the S which has more graceful lines. I would have chosen a non M Sport 750 which has chrome trim instead of the shadowline black trim.

The interior of the 7 is also really high quality, moreso than the S Class in some ways but the S Class has much better seats and better displays IMO.

The 750 is a hoot to drive, the powertrain is more raucous than the 560, it feels a lot faster (0-60 in 3.8 seconds is hilarious in a 5,000 lb luxury sedan). Doesnt ride quite as gracefully as the S Class, but still very nice. Comfort Plus in the 7 series is boatier than Comfort in the S Class, if thats your thing.

At the end of the day both great cars and I can totally see why someone would prefer one to the other.

Thats the M Sport package which isn't what I would have gotten, especially with the shadowline grill.

This is more along the lines of what I would have chosen:

It really is too bad that the proud Germans have found it necessary to bow to the taste for excess in China, but they have, with BMW leading the way. These ridiculous grilles are all about the Chinese market and the basic feeling there that bigger anything and IN YOUR FACE, is better than something properly designed to be tasteful, refined & elegant. I’d be embarrassed to drive a new 7. And, to show that I’m not just anti-BMW, I feel that the last generation 7, as shown in the last photo, was simply gorgeous.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder lol, I think the refresh car is a lot better looking than the pre-refresh, which doesn't stand out to me. It did take some time to grow on me. The grill on the S Class aint small...

That new 7-series grille looks like it would be much more at home on a huge SUV or pick-up truck....not a luxury car. Although they still look gaudy on the X7.

Exactly. BMW may be the worst, but most all car companies are targeting their designs to the Chinese market, including MB.

The S grille isn't small, but at least to my eye it integrates much better with the overall design of the front end. The new 7 front end looks fine, but it's as if they clicked on zoom when they got to the grille.

I think the current Lexus grill is still in the lead for large and ugly.

There's little doubt about that. I'm just shocked than an ultra-conservative company like Toyota would ever let those front and rear end designs on their Lexus line ever make it into production. IMO, those designs are the reason that Lexus has seen a steady decline in US sales since 2015, even with the introduction of several new models.

Problem is the USA is no longer the buyer they are catering to its China. Different countries have different ideas of what beauty is. In China everything is LOOK LOOK AT MY BMW rather than being subtle.

Had both and the S although older looking is just the better car. The finish on the S in person just has that perfect look vs the 7 that looks great in pics but looks 3series in real life.

Looking forward to seeing the new S in person as i dont judge by pics.

Not a big fan of the 7 Series although we almost chose a 2018 B7 (Alpina) but ended up with a E63s which cost quite a bit more to lease while costing around $25k less. BMW leases are quite attractive.
Both the 760 and B7 are very capable cars and if fitted with individual interiors, they are well above most S-Class interiors. Mercedes doesn't have a match. That's not the case with their standard trim and I'll take a standard S-Class over a 7 Series any day

The BMW individual program is also quite comprehensive and reasonable unlike the Designo Manufaktur program. Need a 7 Series in 80 colors or custom color? No problem...

They have actually many more interior choices than shown...
