At its core its still a GLS...the platform of the vehicle was built to a lower standard....they are also $170k+. You can get a great Range Rover with a fabulous ride for less than or very similar to the cost of an S Class, and that vehicle was designed from the ground up to be the best.

Probably going to go with a SWB Range Rover. Will buy a CPO unit and warranty if possible. Bigger problem with Range Rover right now is the newer ones are rather scarce and they are not depreciating like I would expect. 19s are only down around 20% off new MSRP.

The warden does not want a "giant" SUV, and the SWB is probably as big as she will sign off on. Neighbors have the LWB and it looks like a giant ford flex so there is that as well.

No, PLEASE offend him! He offends everyone else at the drop of a hat. Intelligently discussing vehicles and sharing our opinions is great. Invoking a bit of humor is also entertaining to a point. Unfortunately, our buddy Dave here seems to feel the need to get personal and belittle others on a fairly regular basis. He seems to have a real chip on his shoulder and why, I haven’t a clue. I’ve jus taken to ignoring him.

I have never driven the LWB Range Rover, but the SWB one rides great, really just as well as the S Class. Its actually amazing how they can design a vehicle so capable that feels so great on the road.

I see you're still stinging about my comments about your small Honda lookalike wheels. But you'll be OK. You've got a couple others here who like little wheels too.

BTW, it's pretty difficult to offend me as I have pretty thick skin. That's what 6 years in the infantry including serving in a war zone in Iraq will do to you.

They certainly don't check every single box in a comparison, but the GLS checks almost all of them. The drive in the GLS is extremely serene, quiet, and comfortable. But just the nature of an SUV sitting up higher and having longer travel in the suspension means that it won't ride exactly like a car. A nicely optioned GLS will have soft leather throughout the cabin, a fantastic sound system, and almost all of the amenities that you can throw into a loaded S-class. They really are super nice. I haven't driven the new Range Rover, but I'm sure it is met with the same limitation as the GLS because of its higher ride height, even though the rest of the vehicle may have the same kinds of luxury appointments as the S-class. My biggest beef with my old 2013 GL550 was that the middle row wasn't moveable to add more leg room. But that was addressed in the new model.
