2020 S560 Engine w/ AMG parts?
Hi everyone,
Bought a new 2020 S560 from a Mercedes dealership a few months ago. It was delivered with just under 100 miles. I discovered that every label and stamping under the engine cover is marked with AMG and numbers begin with 177. I assume they shared parts with the AMG M177 engine but still wonder if this is the same on everyone else's S560? I hope this car did not have parts replaced due to an undocumented accident...

They are both 4.0L biturbo motors, so I'm sure there are lots of shared parts. The biggest difference is that the AMG motors are hand built, have some different internals, bigger turbos, and more aggressive tuning.

This says the engine was designed by AMG. I'm not sure if AMG is a separate legal entity wholly owned by Mercedes-Benz. If AMG is a unique legal entity, AMG branding on all of the parts would make sense.

AMG is the wholly owned performance division of MB, like M Motorsport is wholly owned by BMW. Until the early 90's, AMG was a separate tuning company. MB acquired them sometime in the early 90's.

MY 2016 Maybach with the V12 has a LOT of AMG marked parts under the engine cover and on brake calipers and suspension components.
