2017 S 550 vs 2018 S Class

I am contemplating the purchase of a certified low mileage S Class vehicle. Any advice on which one to purchase? Thanks for your help.

Go as new as the budget allows. Keep in mind the 2018 was a facelift year with many subtle updates

The Tech is better with the 2018, I've owned both and now have a 2018, got rid of the 2017 last fall. The motor in the 2017 had a little more low end grunt no doubt as it is a 4.7 l vs a 4.0 l motor in the 2018, but there is more turbo boost in the 2018 and it makes up for the shortfall at the higher rpms as the turbos spool up. I like the screens and the tech much better in the 2018, the 2017 didnt even have apple car play, it can be added but it's not the same and a lot of install work to do. I actually liked the back end styling better on the 2017 but like the front end styling better on the 2018. I do sorta wish my 2018 was a 2019 though as I like the cell phone app much better with the 2019's, the in car internet hotspot is better in the 2019's (ATT vs Verizon with the 2018's and below) and the Distronic adaptive cruise tracks even a little better in the 2019's too. The 2017 and below had real problems taking turns with the Distronic steering assist, the 2018 got better and even better after. So like was said, get as new as you can, although it seems right now is not such a great time to be buying any car as prices are so jacked up.

I think the above poster has many valid comments. I drove both before I bought my very low mileage 2017 with warmth and comfort package. I like the grunt of the 4.7 better, definitely like the 9 speed auto as it was the first year for it in the 2017. I am absolutely NOT a gadget person. I didnt want a car with DAP, distronic etc. I never use cruise control or talk on cell phone in the car. I have done some substantial sound system mods. But, I only will be driving
this car maybe 6K a year, mostly on 2-3 hour trips a few times a month, otherwise it stays garaged. I think the last years of the W222 are great cars, no need for me to have the latest and greatest. Good luck with your purchase whatever it may be!

For me, Apple Carplay/ Android Auto was a must so I had to go with 2018 +.
My local dealer had 2019 for not much more than what the 2018s were going for so I picked up a low mileage 2019 CPO. Happy with the purchase
