Similar Experience with Alignment

Hi everyone,

I'm not sure if any of you experienced the same. So my brand new S560 (car has 1000 miles) was pulling to the driver side for a few days. I called the dealer and made an appointment for the alignment. After picking it up from the dealer, the issue was fixed; however, I noticed that I feel the poles and uneven roads more than before, and the suspension is stiffer. Does anyone know if an incorrect alignment can impact the suspension system or no? Thanks for your input.

Perhaps they added to your tire pressure. That certainly can have an impact on perceived alignment as well as ride quality.

I'm sure they over-inflated the tires

You should ask the dealer for the printout of your alignment. It will show the before and after alignment numbers. It should be on file.

Factory spec is 35 front and rear - that's what I use.

After trying many different pressures settings I have settled on 33 psi F and R. That seems to be working fine with my Michelin Pilot Sport 4 ZP tires.

a) you are supposed to align the car with the tires at running pressure not cold pressure. This is 4-8 PSI above cold pressure. {They should also add drivers weight to drivers seat while performing said alignment.}

b) an alignment that centers the thrust (allows the car to drive straight on a flat road) enables the driver to use less pressure on the steering wheel and sometimes this feels like the car is more responsive (and in some ways it is.)

As mentioned above, often dealers will set your TP at the max cold number. That max cold psi makes for a harsher ride that only gets rougher as your tire heats up to pavement temp causing TP increase....especially summertime.

Alignment is about tire toe-in, toe-out, camber and caster. Without getting into some detail, MB basically allows shop adjustments to toe-in/out. Camber with add on parts can be adjusted. Caster no. For a car with no suspension damage, correct allignment should be a piece of cake assuming TP set at reasonable safe number.
