I haven’t diagnosed my rattle yet, but here is the light from a 2018+. The metal clips are on the drivers side. You have to insert a thin piece of plastic and pull down from that side.
Not saying it's the same rattle as yours but I'll mention it here, I had the most annoying loud creaking rattle in my w222 2017 s350d.
Ended up getting the wife to drive around with me in rear as I tried to locate it, after many attempts I identified it as coming from the rear window stop light.
The printed circuit board was rubbing of the external plastic holder of the stop light with most annoying noise.
I cut up a sponge into smaller pieces and packed into the holder to prevent the pcb making contact and the noise disappeared.
