REAR CAMERA
My rear camera is more and more giving me problems when the surround view is on. Sometimes it works great, sometimes it takes 3 to 4 seconds to come on , but recently it has gotten to where it doesn't come on at all. Is there a service campaign on this or a reasonable solution?

Sorry to hear about this issue, there was a backup camera software recall for the E-Class vehicles that gets fixed automatically over the air but I am unsure if there was a recall for S-Class, you may check to see if there is a pending recall by inputting your VIN number on the site (if you are located in the USA):

Hmmm, it might still be a software issue, hopefully it doesn't end up being a hardware issue (like ie. water getting into the camera). Have you try resetting the head unit first (as suggested from another forum member here that helped dealt with software related issues)

Notices on gle forums users unhappy camera opening and closing from rear hatch with a thud sound repeatedly at low speeds, Now am looking at a wagon.
Is the camera operation on the wagon opening and closing quiet.

I say test drive and find out yourself, the noise can be quiet too depending on everyone's hearing.
