choosing between 2018 S540 or 2021 E350
Hello Everyone,
I need your help to decide what to pick, basically I am looking to see if a used low mileage S 450 still give a better driving experience than a new E350 , should I go with new 350 (MBUX, air body control) or S450 W222 2ith multi contour seats, air suspension but the old infotainment system

Hi Mike,
I would suggest you take a test drive in both of them to help you decide. I would probably choose the S model, but that's just me.

I think you will find the S much more Luxurious to drive but it is a much bigger car than the E. If you plan on having people in the back seat the S has considerably more room. The E will feel more sporty/nimble because of the shorter wheelbase. Try them both and see which one you prefer as its really a personal preference on how you like to drive. As for the infotainment system I have no complaints with the S clsses system but the E will certainly be better with the newer features. I daily drive a S class but occasioally have to drive my son's E (W212) and the driving characteristics are night and day different and after all the time in the S, the E is fun to drive, but then on a longer trip the S can't be touched by the E. Its really up to your driving style but i think you would be happy with both.

No more MB:(
I went in looking for an e450 and walked out with the s450, next level. S delivers so much more, quality, fit and finishes, materials, and of course ride. To me the E was always a utilitarian Benz.
I've owned several S cars in the past with V8's but honestly this is one of the best six cylinder engines out there today. It's a lot of car for the money IMO. No regrets.

Would be interesting to know the $ for each of the choices. The used S is so much more car, if it's anywhere close in price I cannot imagine someone wanting an E.

Well you posted in the S-class forum, so our biases may be showing ... lol :-)
I've driven both, back-to-back actually, and there is just no comparison. I know people have practical factors to consider, like how large a vehicle you want to drive, how important gas mileage is, etc. but only one of these cars is the top-of-the-range Mercedes. Only one has been described as "majestic" by the motoring press. And who would want a four-cylinder engine and taxicab vinyl seats when the S has leather and a velvety-smooth V6 or V8 engine?

Do you have a strong preference for new cars vs used cars? I do, so I would choose the lesser car because its new.
With that said the S Class is much more car than the E Class. Ride and drive is better, more refined and isolated, bigger, etc

The S class interior is in a whole different league compared to the E class. Since that is where you spend 100% of the time with a car, I would say it is pretty important.

I too agree with everyone else, since the S-Class is the pinnacle of Mercedes and it is the best in class. I always hear people say nothing drives like an S-Class and nothing drives like a Rolls-Royce. Definitely no brainer to go with the S-Class given how low mileage the car has and how the price is not bad especially during a time where the market is now.
Good luck with your purchase and enjoy in good health : )
