I just completely disagree. Sure the S Class rides better, but its a marginal difference. For an SUV, thats as close as you're going to get.

I agree with most. It's simple physics and you can't get a modern SUV to drive like a sedan. As far as interior quality and configurability, it's the full size Range Rover which according to most is the most unreliable automotive brand in the world and yet they stll sell like hotcakes. EVs will lower the center of gravity with the battery, but from a build perspective it would be easier to get a minivan (much lower floor) to drive like a luxury full size sedan. Too bad there is no market for a luxury minivan. Snotty children be damned, but I would buy a minivan equipped to S class levels.

They are pretty darn close.

I have a minivan and an S Class, and I wouldn't lol. Minivans are ugly and have a weird driving position, practicality is great but as a luxury vehicle? No. Plus, kids destroy them and if one didnt have kids...one wouldn't buy one. Leave the minivans to the mainstream carmakers

I’ll disagree with that. There is a market for luxury adult-haulers .. just not my country. The luxury mini-van is the car of choice when Asian pop stars are being chauffered around by their managers. I would love to chauffer around my parents in something nicer than a Lexus XM minivan (Toyota Alphard). I think the Alphard is Toyota’s priciest van.

America isn’t Asia. There’s a reason why Lexus doesn’t sell the XM here, minivans are a stigmatized shrinking segment here, and going into an even more image focused segment isn’t going to work.

Market trends seem to follow the price of gas....with about a 2 year lag depending on gas prices rising or falling. Gas had been cheap for several years (thanks Trump policies!) and the SUV and crossover market raged while the sale of cars plummeted. Heck, Ford only makes 1 car right now for the US market while everything else is crossovers, SUVs, and trucks. But with Biden's counter-intuitive policies on oil and the drastic rise in oil and gas prices, we're likely to see a massive slowdown in the sales of SUV's and trucks and people returning to more fuel efficient cars in the next 2 years. We will likely see many of the soccer moms exiting their big SUV's and returning to minivans that are much more practical and better on gas.

2020 S560 Sedan, 2019 SL450, 2019 E450 Luxury Trim Wagon, '24 BMW I7 on order...
If a luxury auto maker made a truly luxurious, substantial minivan, I would seriously consider one as a utility vehicle, especially if the rear seats folded into the floor like on the Chrysler. Current minivans ride much better than most all SUV’s and with electric sliding doors on both sides, are much easier to use for hauling stuff around. In the meantime, I’m sticking with my Ford Transit.

like I stated above, there is no market for a luxury minivan in my country. But I’d buy one in a jiffy over any luxury SUV if one were available. Screw image. I take function any way. And the Maybach SUV has nothing on a Lexus LM. Maybe some grunt.

We already have an Odyssey. But thanks for the offer. I'll be sure to take you up on that in a few years when it's time for a newer model.

And I certainly don't disagree about crossovers sticking around.

You might want to consider a Toyota Sienna as they do have AWD available as an option and you can get them pretty darn loaded with luxury appointments. And they are supposed to be coming out with a "Woodland Edition" this year which is supposed to bridge the gap between full size SUV and minivan.

If the seats don’t fold into the floor, forget it. If clunky Chrysler can do it, you would think the obsessive engineers in Japan could do it as well. Removing seats is backbreaking and then, where do you put them? It would be incredibly impressive if at the touch of one button, the second & third rows silently retracted and disappeared into the floor, much the way that the hardtop on my SL retracts.

Not really. My Pacifica rides fine, but it rides almost identically to the many other unibody crossovers on the market because essentially under the body shell they're the same design. Blindfold you and put you in a minivan and a Toyota Highlander or Hyundai Palisade or Honda Pilot or whatever and you're not going to notice the difference.

Theres no bridging the gap, the form factor of a minivan will never be an SUV/Crossover. Thats like saying these SUV coupes bridge the gap between a coupe and an SUV...they do no such thing. They're just SUVs with weird rooflines and sportier shapes.

Our minivans have been great tools, but as soon as I can convince my wife to ditch it for an SUV, I will.

You have a Toyota Sienna Woodland Edition? And you obviously read pretty much everything I post as you almost always have some sort of contradictory reply.

The New S-Class of SUV's? New Range Rover Revealed

The new Range Rover may be the best attempt yet at an SUV most like the S-Class. The new RR looks excellent inside and out, plus gets some useful upgrades such as four-wheel steering, new Mild Hybrid Inline-6's, as well as a BMW V8 option, and a true 7-seater model for the first time.

The New 2022 Land Rover Range Rover

Watched some videos of it, I like it a lot. Only thing I'm not sure about is the rear end taillight treatment. Has the stupid pop out door handles. But, I like the interior design much more than the W223. If they can show over the next couple years they're reliable enough for 3-4 years that might just be my next car.

If that isn't called a glued on iPad, I am not sure what is. Although at least it has small bezels (from the looks of it)

No more MB:(
Once again the full size Range does not disappoint in the styling department. Large, elegant, sophisticated, with world level off-road capacity. What else would any one want in a SUV? The interior is way above the new S in terms of design, still would prefer a built-in screen as opposed to something that looks slapped on but overall this is a winner IMO. This has modern and class all over it.

Funny enough LR does actually refer to it as a "floating tablet" so at least they're honest

I'm very interested to see the RR Sport model and how well everything translates to that model as that could definitely be a replacement for the wife's GLE in a couple years, especially since LR has also adopted similar 48-Volt EQ Boost technology as MB.

I wouldn't say that. To me, the Lexus LM is a truly ugly car...

So the stuck-on Tesla screen is OK in the RR but a mostly integrated screen on the new S-Class is unacceptable? Knowing RR, it likely be a laggy screen experience. I hope not and like the new design...
