Can a pre-2018 COMAND/NTG system be updated to the version that includes CarPlay functionality?

I have read that NTG 5.2 is CarPlay compatible and I believe that is what was in the W222, even before CarPlay was added. I see a few discussions of aftermarket options like joyauto and zz2 but no explanation of why an OEM upgrade isn’t possible.

There are aftermarkets available but there is a pretty detailed installed that has to happen. There was a guy here he might chime in he was trying to sell me one but I will not do it until my warranty is over. I wish my local radio dude had one that did it that he backs and installed.

I have my phone mounted just under the Command screen, blocks the analog clock but works for now, when warranty ends I will install aftermarket. There are some vidoes of install there are a lot of parts to remove and install

I sold my S class. I had installed Joyauto in my car. It worked. Check my posts. I made a detailed review.. sorry on my phone I can not hunt for it. Using your phone like badg45 does is the best way. After all said and done that is what I would do if I had it to do again.

And you think that using the phone is better than CarPlay? Is that opinion about CarPlay in the W222 specifically or about CarPlay in general?

There are no MB options available out there unforunately, I would pay a premium for that vs. an aftermaket solution. I found a mount that puts my phone right under the Command screen and once my warranty is over I will add one of these aftermarket options
