Tired of the old man burlwood trim, thinking about painting it piano black. Would probably remove all the trim and have a body shop do the spray with a high quality paint and clearcoat. Anyone ever done this. Seems like it would be pretty easy, just don't want to come out with cheap looking trim.

I've never done that but I just wanted to raise one other possibility for you. Just in case the job doesn't go well or you end up wanting to reverse it, it may be difficult to reverse a paint job. You could consider a wrap instead. That way, if it didn't work out or you changed your mind it could be easily undone. A wrap also provides a tremendous amount of flexibility in terms of options. You might even consider something that looks like carbon fiber. I'm sure there is a glossy black available. It should also be cheaper than painting I would guess.Originally Posted by superpop

Not trashing your idea, just suggesting what might be a reasonable alternative for you to consider.

I love burl walnut , I would either have it replaced or refurbished but I have to say that I love the idea of making changes in the trim .So, carbon black instead of piano black would enhance the interior look I don't know what color interior but it should not affect the choice of trim option
I agree on the wrap idea and have seen impressive results with this done on other trim items.
I’d be a little worried about removing the pieces though, little clips and retainers on plastic parts like to break. Maybe the wrap could even be done with trim pieces in place.

There is probably a simpler way to simply replace the trim, including the steering wheel.

It’s funny how these forums “mature” as the models age. Reminds me of when I was young, using a spray can product I got from PepBoys, to “change” the color of my interior: seats, door panels, carpets, everything!
