Plug-in Hybrid battery warranty

Would any of the California S550e owners confirm the PHEV battery warranty? The warranty booklet says 6y/62K miles, but CARB has a mandate of 10y/150K miles. I tried to reach MB customer support, but they are clueless and forward my call to MB directly to the equally clueless Beverly Hills service department (their CA headquarter?).

I'm close to the 6 year mark, and I'm debating whether to keep the PHEV a little longer. Thanks a lot!

Seems like they are so lost at Mercedes Customer Service these days. If the Carb mandate is 10/150K I'd think thats what it is even though MB does not want to seem to admit it.

Check your warranty book and follow the asterisks. Here is an excerpt from the 2020 S560e warranty book. Don't know if this applies to your S550e or not but it should be at least eight years 100,000 miles per the EPA.

Plug-in Hybrid Electric High Voltage Battery
The High Voltage Battery warranty coverage period for new Plug-in
Hybrid Electric vehicles which are first sold by an authorized Mercedes￾Benz Dealership in CA, CT, MA, MD, ME, NJ, NY, RI and VT is 10 years or
150,000 miles, whichever occurs first (▹ Page 83).

[Page 83]
Defect Warranty Coverage (15 years/150,000 miles)
Plug-in Hybrid Electric (CA, CT, MA, MD, ME, NJ, NY, RI and VT Only)

Contradicting....but much more than the six years. Even the EPA states minimum is eight years 100,000 miles so I'm not sure where MBUSA gets the lower six year, 62,000 miles from.

Glad to hear that my 16' seems to be fine right now but I know that these batteries do not last forever. I may have a tiny bit last service I had them check the battery health. I have one more MB service with the 3 year I bought and I was going to demand a report given this is my last pre-paid service and I have warranty until 2023. i am sure that the battery is a 10k replacement

Thanks for the info badq45t. And thanks to all your replies. My vehicle is GLE550e, which is a rare find in US (only 1400 units sold all over the years). Since it shares the exact same powertrain as W222 S550e, I guess there are more knowledge here.

Upon contacting CARB and checking my vehicle's emission label (under the hood), it shows the car is certified as "SULEV III 30" under California emission rules, which is not technically a PZEV.

You may want to check your S550e emission label to confirm.

I will do that for sure, I have service in 70 days and my goal is for a new battery while I am in warranty, may need to take that service write to lunch . I do love my 550e, all the power and I love seeing 39.5 MPG on my meter right now over 300 miles and still have 60% fuel left.

curious to hear your updates on battery condition/replacement. how many miles do you have on the s550e now?

glad to hear about the s550e. I got a c350e by chance since Toyota dealers all wants 5-10k over sticker for a Prius prime that led me to researching other PHEVs and glad I did! Love the comfort

Holy CRAP! That totally sucks hope that MB steps up and helps you with this issue! I dread that and at my current pace I will be hitting 80k in 6 years, I no longer commute for work and I have 3 other cars.

Slightly off topic, is it true that Mercedes sources the HV batteries from Tesla?

My hybrid battery was replaced at the dealer under warranty at 12,000 miles. It was there for over a month awaiting a battery shipped from Tesla. My advisor told me it will start a brand new 10 year/150k mile warranty if I remember correctly.

I never knew what caused the fault. I think I just got a bad egg. I drove it normally it's whole life, plugging in every night. I've driven the same way since the replacement for years later and happy to report no issues.

What was the symtoms that caused them to replace the battery? I had hear that they were indeed Tesla batteries, that is actually a good thing I think.

I was driving and suddenly quite a bit of warning lights appeared. I believe a red battery symbol, check engine, and something along the lines of ‘Stop Vehicle.’ I just drove straight to my dealer, picked up a loaner car, and awaited their response.

They ran a bunch of tests before hand, obviously they will not replace it right off the bat. They checked the charge port (possibly dirty), they checked all battery wiring connections for faults, and a few more items before completely removing all of the trunk liner and rear seats to replace the battery.

Wow, that is pretty crazy! I sort of hope for that to happen while my warranty is still live but so far the battery hasn't degraded. Tesla battery is a good thing for sure.

2016 mercedes s550e plug in hybrid battery warranty

Hello everyone, I have a 2016 mercedes s550e plug in hybrid 123k miles purchased CPO in 2019 went to my local dealer and they diagnosed the car as having a bad high voltage battery and voltage converter. 20k repair which they are not wanting to cover under warranty. From my research looks like carb requires a 10 year warranty with 150,000 miles on all hybrid components. Would this be applicable to my car? Is there any way to apply pressure on the dealer to cover this under warranty?

Does the 10yr/150k PHEV battery warranty only matter on where the car was purchased or where you live? For example, I live in NC. But if I purchase the PHEV in MD then take it back to NC, do I get the 10yr/150k warranty or the 6yr/62k warranty?

this is a pretty old post I was wondering if that guy who posted ever got his battery replaced under warranty. I live in CA so i guess I have 1 year left. My battery still works pretty well but loses power while parked, I plan to take the car into dealer for the B3 service (I have a $250 coupon) and will ask them to do test and complain about that issue and see if they can get it replaced!! A quick ChatGPT question yieled this response on which states extende it to 10 year/150k: California (CA), Connecticut (CT), Massachusetts (MA), Maryland (MD), Maine (ME), New Jersey (NJ), New York (NY), Rhode Island (RI), and Vermont (VT). Looks like you should drive the car back to Maryland if you want the repair but they may look at your NC plate and not do the replacement

Interesting that the earlier post stated the warranty is based on the state where the vehicle was first sold by an authorized dealer.

I sure hope that is not true, but I will find out shortly when I take mine in for the service and try to negotiate for a new battery. My battery still is very operational but wow if I could get a new one!! I think my car was originally sold in Oklahoma (they GPS still had "Home" in bumfu$ck OK) but I bought in CA and car is in CA.
