OP, dealerships usually scare people with a diagnostic fee (mostly because then they don't have to fix your issue if you don't agree and there is no clear sign that it is a defect by just a visual or computer inspection (ie. no codes), this is especially common since they are short staffed) but if you know that you didn't damage it yourself by any means then warranty should cover it. Once they actually do the diagnostic and determined that it is a warranty issue, the warranty will cover the diagnostic fee as well.

Are you still within the factory new car warranty? If so, it should absolutely be covered. This “not sure it will be covered” business is absolutely nonsense and a waste of your time.

Take it to another MB dealership if possible.

At the very least COMAND unit, phone related, and amplifier software should be checked/updated under warranty. Contact MBUSA CAC 800-367-6372 for their opinion warranty denial. Also worth mentioning EPC documents MB has updated amplifier several times 'usually' indicating modification. Check your email.

Thank you all for your replies. This is an aftermarket warranty through Assurant. It's their Hi-Tech warranty that also covers electronics.

crank sensors; digital or analog instrument cluster;
moisture control unit and sensors; anti-detonation

device; ABS (anti-locking braking system), electronic
brake control module.

ELECTRICAL PLUS
All power motors and solenoids related to the electrical
operations of antennas, door locks, power
headlight motors, seat motors, mirrors, convertible
tops, power trunk releases.

FACTORY-INSTALLED NAVIGATIONAL SYSTEM
Display, controls, and all electrical components.


ELECTRICAL
Alternator; voltage regulator; voltage sensor; distributor;
starter motor, starter drive and solenoid; electronic
ignition module; wiring harnesses; manually operated
switches; wiper motor; power window motor; sunroof
motor.
