Self park

Does anyone use the self parking feature? I’m actually afraid to give it a try.

No need to be afraid of trying. You can use the brakes as you like to slow down and have full control and can stop the car when ever you prefer.

I've tried it when my car was new (2014 or so) and haven't used it since. The 223 is much more advanced with self parking and seems easier to use too. I wouldn't be surprised if I'd use it more often than parking myself.

I don't use it. Getting it to park (especially in traffic), is really cumbersome... and then there is 1 in 3 chance it would fail.... it's really more like a gadget, not a real self-parking feature, in my opinion...

It’s probably my favorite feature on the car.

Need to take a little extra time and care when lining the vehicle up to start the Parktronic sequence. If I am patient I use Parktronic. If I’m in a hurry I park myself.

I've never used it and I don't plan on it. I doubt you would ever see a parking spot large enough in NY to try it out. It's more of a gimmick than anything.

I've heard of other vehicles scraping the curb while self parking. I guess some people put too much trust into it.

Every time I go to a place with cars parked with a few empty spots, I try to practice using it and then all of sudden every Tom, Dick, and Harry will start coming down the lane and I have to abort, knowing they will get furious with me holding them up.

It works great, but its so cumbersome to get it to operate that I never use it. We have it in our Chrysler Pacifica also and that I use every time because its much easier to get started.

I use it but generally I park my car myself . It could be stressful when there's a heavy traffic queuing behind you when you try to engage it and don't know how to enable it using critical steps to activate it

I worry that the system won't detect the height of the curb and that I'll scrape a wheel using it. Is that a legit concern or should I just trust the system?

Unless it is something you find difficult to do I would just skip it- it's a gimmick. Be the driver...

I have never had this happen, and I've had cars with this feature for many years.

I use it when parallel parking is needed. Works great IMO.

I have heard that Audi hit the curb but it was probably due to the fact that the system was too new and needed to be calibrated . I have not tested W222's but it must be working well and replies posted our W222 Owners also confirm that . Another thing , I have noticed is that if there's something wrong with the curb such as missing sections of it or a pile of iknownotwat things nearby ,the car automatically stops and warns me about it .

Previous threads mentioned that it will curb a wheel (especially the 20") occasionally. Do you all have any reports of that?

Yes it takes some skill to know how far to initiate the sequence relative to adjacent cars and the curb.

Once that skill is mastered, the system is a joy to use and works perfectly every time.

MB showed me how to use it when I was buying my S550. It worked as it should in that it parked the car. However, I've never used it and have no plans to. I guess it's great for drivers who have trouble parking.

I doubt any of the members at this S-class forum have trouble parking the car. I see it as a convenience function like many other assistance systems in the car. As I said earlier, I don't use it but it is not that I would not trust the feature. I'm just too lazy (perhaps too old) to learn to make use of this feature. Another point is that we have a lot of space to park the car anywhere I need to park it. If I had to park the car into tight places frequently, I would certainly learn to use the feature (but would still watch after the car doing it).

I should try it, but i rarely parallel park where I live. We do however have some areas with "back-in" parking and I would love to have an automated system for that! The older I get the harder it seems to be to maneuver any car in close quaters.

In the ~200 times I've demonstrated ParkTronic, I've had one instance of the car pulling too far forward and scraping a front lip and another where it did not detect a light post. Fortunately for the second one, I caught it quickly and stabbed the brake.

@Tom in Austin Parktronic works for back-in (opposite of nose-in) parking.

I am mostly in parking lots with more than one space between cars. I have not tried to parallel park. Like opening the trunk with your foot, self park is one thing that I still haven't figured out. It's not a priority, but it would be nice to have working.

Love Parktronic. It takes some practice to position the vehicle in the sweet spot, before engaging the Parktronic system.
