S Class W222 LWB in Garage for Looooooooong time

I have an S Class W222 LWB. It went in for annual service and MOT (UK) in December 2021 (specifically to Mercedes Benz Wandsworth, London UK). It had a problem with its break system (ABS light comes on periodically when driving). Apparently a part needs changing (fine) and ever since then Mercedes have been waiting for that part to arrive. They are impossible to contact by phone, and when you get them some central call center answers who do not know what part they are waiting for or what the ETA on arrival is, but have plenty of excuses (China, shipping availability etc). They claim that everyone faces the same issue. Six months later, I'm losing patience, but moving the car (as it is now well out of MOT) will require arranging a trailer to pick it up and take it somewhere else, which will be expensive. What is the likelihood of a less useless garage being able to fix it more quickly?

I'd get a lawyer and make them pay $XXXX per week that you don't have it.

I don't think that's going to work. Under English law at least, they did not promise to repair it within any particular time, have not charged me, and are presumably entirely happy if it take it anywhere else. My question is "will anywhere else be any faster?"

can you ask exactly what part is needed and maybe find one from a breakers, I have helped a local main dealer ( not mercedes ) out a few times by sourcing used parts that they were unable to source through their normal ways, most recently an air "spring" , it was for a hearse they had in the workshop and they could not get one on back order anywhere , I found a used one for them and their customer was pleased to at least get his car back on the road.
Obviously they explained it was a used part and hence no warranty but at the end of the day the car was fixed and back to work and the part was £130 instead of well over £800.

6 months waiting on a part? Yeah no. I would have had it out of there months ago.

That's unacceptable , since you're in the UK why not contact Wheeler Dealer's Mike Brewer ? It may sound stupid but should worth try
Good Luck
