Okay crew, so I'm at 21,000 miles. I have on the car a set of Michelin Primacy MXM4 non runflats. They still have about 5/32nds of tread left, but the front outside shoulders are worn from not being able to rotate them, and they're hydroplaning pretty bad so I'm going to replace them.
Its an AMG package 19" car, so the fronts at 245/45/19 and the rears are 275/40/19. My priority is a soft and quiet ride, and the Michelins have only been okay in that regard. I bought them because of a lack of other options.
I'm debating between another set of these Michelins, or going to an UHP tire such as the Continental DWS 06+ or the Pirelli PZero All Season Plus. The Pirellis came in as having a softer quieter ride than the Continentals in Tire Rack's test:
But the Continentals have better reviews. I'm inclined to believe the test results more than the reviews since they are a direct comparison. I also ran multiple sets of Pirelli Cinturato P7 A/S Plus, Plus II on my Lexus sedans and really love those tires.
Any thoughts? Anybody had both tires? Anybody gone from a Grand Touring tire to an UHP tire on this car, or another car and have thoughts?
I have the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 and the road noise is terrible with my 20" wheels. I would not buy them again and I'm a pretty die-hard Michelin man.
I’ve heard that about those tires. Sadly Michelin just doesn’t make any good quiet tires anymore.

I just took off a set of Conti DWS06's that were so noisy that they not only made me crazy, but they also bothered my wife and even (i'd bet) the folks in the car next to me. I took them off while there was still plenty of tread left, because even in an E400, the tire noise was louder than anything in the car except maybe the radio. The OEM Conti ProContact tires were really noisy, too.
I am now auditioning Michelin Pilot Sport All Seasons. The jury is still out.
I think that the higher up the performance ladder you go, the louder the tires get, and I am not willing to go back down that ladder, sacrificing performance, just for a bit more quiet. With an S Class, your choice might be different. Just wanted to make sure you knew that the DWS06's get frightfully noisy once you get past about 50% tread consumed.

How long do you have them ? I got them as well and the first thousand miles the noise was terrible, but now I think it settled and they quiet.

I have about 6k miles on them and the noise has been consistent for me. In a normal car I bet the wind noise would drown them out; in an S class any tire noise is deafening.

Check out the threads touting the General GMax AS05. I'm running them now on my 15 staggered and can't really say anything bad about them, positive is the price.

Hmm...strange. Perhaps the only difference is that I run 255/40/20 front and 285/35/20 rear, so it has bigger cushion, than standard tires.
I have been using Michelin Primacy Series in various vehicles and quite satisfied with them . Pilot Sport Series should be much better in many ways too . I don't have any experience with 20" Run Flat Michelins though .

I don't think Michelins are noisy per se, I just don't think they are especially quiet anymore. if you look at TireRack's instrumented comparison tests, the Michelins are never the winner or even in the top two when it comes to ride quality and noise. Given the price of Michelins, I would want them to be.
I have read that about the DWS06 which is what pointed me towards the P Zeros. In a perfect world I would stay with Grand Touring tires but there just aren't any good options in these sizes, the tires I have are really it. Like I said, they are okay but the ride isn't incredible and the grip is bordering on poor...

Well, I can say that the "turn-in" response of the DWS06's is better than the Michelin Pilot AS4's. The Michelins grip, but the Conti's felt tighter and responded more quickly to cornering input. But. . . this was on a W212 E Class with the sport suspension. I am not sure how it would translate to an S Class, as I expect that the suspension tuning is different. My DWS06's were nice and quiet for the first 10-12K miles, then they rapidly became very, very noisy.
Personally, I have an aversion to Pirelli tires due to some failure issues with that brand in the past. Next time I need tires, I may have to re-visit the choice not to use them. I am not sure how many other brands make "MO" spec tires, although many make the sizes we need (but they may not be rated for the weight of these cars). I just don't think I want to venture out in the wild and run tires that are not compliant with the MB tire spec. (In the past, before the "MO" spec became a rallying cry for MB tires, I happily ran Yokohama tires on my W201.) In the W212 forum, there have been numerous members who ran other tires like Kumho and other lesser-known brands, but IIRC these folks were the ones who were only going to get 10K miles from any tire on their cars, so cheap was better for them.
BTW -- Don't forget to factor in the climate/weather in your typical driving locale. I am in the Upper Rust Belt (near Chicago), and our weather can be really nasty in the winter (heavy snows) and spring (heavy rains). When my daily car was a Lexus LS, I had two sets of wheels and tires -- one for winter, with Blizzaks, and the other for the other 3 seasons, with appropriate rubber. I really didn't want to go through that with the 4Matic, hence the all-season choice.

Yeah that noise issue after 10-15k miles concerns me.
I have had really positive experiences with Pirellis on my previous Lexus sedans. I ran the Cinturato P7 Plus and Plus II on both of my LS460s and was so satisfied with them I wouldn't even consider different tires. I probably had 4 sets, and out of those 4 sets I got one slightly out of round tire that had I kept the last one I would have swapped out, but I soon traded it for the S560. Even in the snow, my last LS460L was RWD and it was very drivable in the snow on those Pirellis. Unfortunately they don't come in the rear size for this car.
You mentioned Yokohama, these tires are another option, the Yokahama Advan Sport A/S Plus:

I can confirm that allowing a ultra high performance tire to become totally slick (tread depth = 0.000") makes for a very loud tire (whereas with more typical tread depth they were reasonably quiet for a UHP}
I have been checking tires a lot after I replaced my Conti Sports Contact 6 UHP Summer tires with Michelin Alpin UHP winter tires... Winter tires were so much better on comfort and sound, so I also changed the Conti UHP to Michelin Pilot A/S 4 UHP this week (only A/S available for the GLB35 AMG 21" rims)... They are much comfortable compared to Conti summer tires, but noise is a question depending on the surface. You can also see the Michelin UHP - Non UHP comparison review at tirerack:
@SW20S I switched to DWS06+ tires for dedicated staggered AMG forged black wheels recently on my 2021 wagon. They have been OK so far but better than less compliant Summer OE Runflats especially since needed XL load rating on both my E63s and Chevy SS for the colder winter mountain climate. Works for my 75+mph 1500 mile Treks on smooth roads between NM and GA state line but my cars aren't designed to be S-Class Luxurious and Vault like quiet. Plus I know the roads tend to get bumpy as I approach DC and Laurel MD from I-66 thru the Beltway with all the construction and potholes. Going to Jimmy's Famous Seafood soon at Baltimore Harbor. On the older 20" Pirelli P Zeros my only complaint were that they flat spotted while in garage and needed a few miles of driving to smooth out on 2010 2SS/RS Camaro that had a GT like suspension borrowed from Holden VE Commodore/Pontiac G8.
I have Falken 510s and find them great . Very quiet. I believe they have just launched the 520s which are apparently even better . Might be worth a look.

The P Zeros come in the right size. The touring tires all only come in like 255 widths is the issue there
