'15 W222 parts needed to replace grill 360 degree camera mechanism

I have a 2015 S63.

Although my front grille doesn't have a single scratch on it, it appears that my grille camera mechanism is damaged; when you put the car in reverse, the camera displays an image, and then an X appears in the image (see photo) and the camera drops down.

What parts do I need to get the front 360 degree camera mechanism to work properly (excluding the camera)?

Has anyone performed any work or maintenance in the front of the vehicle that may have required the removal of the grille? If the connector for the camera or the motor that lifts the cover were left disconnected, you'll get that image.

Have you verified that the cover is not opening? There's an option to open the front and rear camera covers to clean the cameras, so you may want to be sure it's the lid mechanism and not a bad camera.

BTW, if you replaced the factory grille with an aftermarket grille, the spring that closes the cover may have too much tension and you'll need to transfer over the small spring from the original.

If you have a scan tool, the cover and multifunction cameras are listed as modules so you read exactly what's causing the issue.

I have the same grill as you do, as a matter of fact I removed the factory chrome grille and replaced it with a piano black one. When I did the swap I had to move the camera module from one grille to another - this was insanely simple, required the removal of only two hex screws (or was it four? I forget....) What I noticed is the small actuator assembly to push the camera out was sticking a little bit on the new grille and would not fully extend. What I did was remove the grille and the camera and then fiddle with the spring loaded flap that opens which the camera is attached. I noticed that even a very small piece of farf could fall in just right and inhibit the forward movement of the assembly as I found a small black plastic shaving that looked like a spring but was just plastic that had caught in there. I pushed it out and put the camera back on and connected it all up and it worked great. I had the same red X as you have too and after the camera was fully extended the first time after the fix, the red X was gone. I never started the vehicle during the entire process so I don't know anything about possible reprogramming issues.

Finally, the wiring connector that attaches to the camera and actuator assembly may be disconnected - so you may have that to look at. I found it very difficult to make that connection and ended up having a friend hold the new grille just so, in order that I could make the connection and click the locking tab in place. I could see that if this didn't lock for some reason it would pop off at some point.

That is all I got for ya.

YEs removing the grill was very easy. I had to replace the cover for the radar unit on the Maybach. The camera if I recall was directly above that cover and I cant recall if its removable but I suspect it is. At the very least it would be worth the effort to take the grill out and see if the camera is stuck due to some sort of debris.

Somewhere in my post history there is a post I wrote about removing the grill with pictures and all.

I recently replaced the door that goes over the camera, the Chrome trim had become lost! Below are the steps that I took for that process.

The install wasn’t too bad, four 10mm bolts across the top of the grill, and then pull the grill forwards. There are three clips across the top and two on the bottom that hold it in place after that, I used a trim removal tool to gently pry the grill forward for the top clips, the bottom ones pulled out on their own.
Next, detach all of the electrical connectors, I had 3.
From here, place the grill face down on something soft, there are five torx screws holding the camera assembly in place, take them all out.
Push the camera door so that it’s wide open, and pull the camera out.
The door has a spring on it, take note of where it is!
Unclip the door, and your ready to go in reverse. Putting the spring back on the door was a pain, but after that it went quickly.

Camera held in with 5 torx bolts/screws
