Why does trunk look so small?

Why does trunk look so small?
This car does not seem to have any rear seat options but trunk looks small. Can anyone explain? I've seen the trunk of other cars with and without rear seat package and it doesn't look like this.

I'm assuming you bought that car used. It looks like a custom enclosure for an after market subwoofer and maybe an Amp. You can take that thing out of there and double your trunk space.

What I have learned over the years is that there are many different trunk configurations for the W222. This appears to be the smallest, but I have seen it before. The largest is with no power rear seats, and the smallest is with the rear fridge or S550e.

The only option that I have in the back is heated seats, nothing else and I too have that box taking up the upper half of the back seat.

Thanks for the replies! No, haven't bought yet. That car was one option locally and I don't like the small trunk. I'm trying to test drive a *different* S560 this weekend which has the "normal" sized trunk. I would LOVE to have the rear seat refrigerator even if my partner calls me crazy or stupid. I was really trying to find the DVD changer but all I could find were older cars usually out of warranty.

Reclining electric rear seats require the boxed area just behind them as they need the upper space to recline. The "Comfort Box" or fold down storage unit mounted below the rear deck takes up space even when retracted. The Burmester 4D sound system has a rear sub-woofer that takes up some side storage area of the trunk.
Want more room in the trunk?
Get one without rear reclining seats. Un-clip and remove the "Comfort Box" and sell it to me cheap, please

Plug-in hybrid versions have even smaller trunks :-D As there are batteries taking a lot of space there.
Then the optional 3D Burmeister audio system takes a lot of space on the left side of trunk.
In this case, however, there is something on the right, which is hard to say what it is. I have seen in some Pullman versions there were extra compressed air tanks there to enable something like "chemical defense mode" when it does not use air from outside...
By the way about the fridge comments, the MB OEM fridge does take a lot of trunk space, while it only offers you very limited fridge space, like for 4 bottles. I find it much more practical to just use 40L portable fridge with car plug (very many versions of it available), that costs just 200-300 USD. And it does great work cooling, fits lots of stuff and you can easily take it with you when you need it and leave it out when you don't. I have a 12V plug in the trunk so it works so nicely. If access to the fridge is needed inside, it could be put inside too.

Yes, it is not that big.
Yes, it is great for transporting stuff that cannot deal with 106ºF Texas heat--even if small.
But, thankfully, it takes only a couple of minutes to remove or reinstall.
