16' S550 Coupe dash peeling?

On the passenger side close to the bottom of the windshield, it looks as the adhesive on the leather covering melted and the cover started receding and curling inwards.

Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else and what may have caused it, excessive sun exposure perhaps? It may have been shoddingly repaired before but I'm uncertain. Thank you for any input.

Very common on the SL, just go that forum, unfortunately there is not much you can do to fix it as it came from the factory, unless you replace it ($$$$)

This is common to every car with a full-leather dash - Ferrari, Bentley, MB, Porsche, etc. After 3-4 years with some sun exposure they all do this. I believe Porsche now limits the “full leather” and it does not extend all the way to the windshield for this reason.

You are SOL. Either live with it, get a warranty replacement (if still under warranty), or pay to have an upholstery shop repair it ($2-4k) every few years.

Or you can keep the dash out of the sun, or when it does get in the sun you treat it weekly with Leatherique.

As a Ferrari owner, you should know that even impeccably maintained cars are susceptible to this! Even ones that spend their whole lives in garages.

I use one of these CoverCraft Sunscreens (see link below) on my SL anytime I have leave the car in the sun with the windows up. My R231 has a leather dash…
You'll be amazed at how hot that sunscreen gets when you have to grab it to pull from your windshield. It keeps the car significantly cooler and keeps that area from getting direct exposure to the sun. I keep it in the trunk. They are custom made for a perfect fit.
