radar detector

My 2016 S550 has an issue with iPass transponder in Illinois due to the coating on the windshield. I was told to place the transponder in the lower center section of the windshield to allow it to function. There appears to be a rectangular section in that area of the windshield that does not have the coating.
I am curious if anyone has a similar issue with a radar detector? Your advice is appreciated.

The two pink spots are where the signal pass through is on the glass, if you look at it when the lighting is right at certain angles you’ll see the pass through area. I’ve hardwired and mounted my R3 on the lower with a mute switch near my right leg and Toll transponder on the upper pass through.

Not a single issue with tolling/toll plazas. Radar detector no issues on all bands and laser, I have it mounted so it’s almost exactly centered with the pass through.

My experience is the same. If you put your Radar Detector and/or Toll Transponder in one of thos two windshield zones you should have no problems.

That is directly above the ambient light sensor, so I’m assuming your headlights are always on?

Ambient light sensor isn’t covered, angle of the dash has the r3 resting level to the line of sight and also pointing straight ahead to the middle of the pass through. Hardwire I ran from between dash/windshield to driver’s side fuse box. Mute button I routed from fuse box under the dash to this spot right next to the console out of sight.

If you put polarized sunglasses on and look at the windshield in the sun, you will clearly see the 2 cutouts. For the sunpass transponder here it has to be in the cutout. The radar detector is more forgiving.
