License plate frames yes/no (and front plate)

I switched from a standard to a personalized plate from NC. Holes on the new plate didn’t line up with dealer frame so I tossed it. Someone on Reddit suggested a silicone frame to prevent scratches etc. Wondering who uses a license plate frame or who goes without? I kind of like the clean look without one.

Also has anyone found really short screws for the front? The ones I got from Amazon seem just a little too long.

Have license plates front & rear. California DMV requirement. Don’t use license frames on either.

My car is from DC. Diplomat car, supposedly. Has a plate holder on front but NC doesn’t require front. And screws seem just a bit too long. Back seems fine without frame. I have these silver caps for the screws but decided not to use them. Screws only highlights the personalized plate.

I have clean black silicone frames on all my cars. I think it makes a "finished look" to an otherwise naked license plate. It literally just goes around the edges.

I may try that. I found one that might have the right holes.
