Cool

QUOTE=stever500;8720861]Getting a 2018? Heck yes! Just do it. It doesn't take much thinking here. My car has been solid, bulletproof, cheap to maintain... CHEAP! I bought a 10 year warranty when I bought it and I may not get to use it much the way things have been going. It's that good. The steering wheel is the highlight for me by far. The way it looks... I like it better than the new cars on the outside. Just do it, and know that you're on a forum so 50% of people will tell you not to do something, anything, and 50% will say to go for it. That's just the way it is. Here is the day I found my car, below. It was like.... the best day ever. I still love this car like the day I bought it.

[/QUOTE]

Wish I could say I disagree with anything he said, but I can't. I'm an example of someone who is still on the fence about the V2 or my 2017 V1 W222. If I decide to let go of my 2017, it will be for an S63; this car is equipped EXACTLY like I want mine, even the right color. I'M JEALOUS

I have never had experience with the 2019-2020 App. I know it has features like fuel and battery level, tire pressure and security alerts in case of break-ins/collision while parked. I'm sure there are more features than this but those are the ones I rememeber off the top of my head.

The 2018 App has car location, start/stop, lock/unlock, valet mode, horn/lights, Curfew Minder, Speed Alert, Travel Zones, Driving Journal, Send2Benz

We bought a 2018 S560 4MATIC that has 36,000 kms (22,369 miles) and drove it home yesterday.

Some questions:

How do you turn off the radio? Is there a way or is the most you can do is mute it?
How do you permanently disable start and stop? I know there is a button on the center console that you can press but it seems to turn back on when you turn on the car.

There is a power button for entertainment system at top/right side of control knob.

Permanently disabling stop/start requires coding. Search out BenzNinja.

Thanks.

Does that power button only turn off the radio/entertainment system or the whole COMMAND screen? If I am not mistaken, when I press that button the whole COMMAND screen turns off. I'll double check though.

Mercedes S560
My built-to-order 2018 S560, with specified MBC (over 4-Matic) was delivered in June of '18. One glitch, trunk latching was fixed pretty shortly. It's my only driver, but now has only 32,600 miles on it.
It's a fabulous car, in Emerald Green Metallic, and I hope to own it and drive so long as I am competent to do so. I am in my early 90s, so... Milady, whose DD is a Lexus RX, says she will keep the 560 after I'm out of the picture.
I'm definitely a Minimalist when it comes to options: Could not care less about wheel size - perhaps out of ignorance, or design. Never use sunroof, radio, HUD doesn't work with Polaroid glasses so don't have. Use cruise and Distronic all the time I can. Never use lane assist. Switching driver displays can be confusing, but seldom do it. Nav is good, had it upgraded at last service.
High performance has no appeal; comfortable ride is paramount, and we have that in spades.
I have some backseat options I was forced into due to my interior choice. I don't like the light colors on surfaces where we put our hands, but that was an MB decision, not mine. Incomprehensible to me.
As nothing is ever perfect I would give our S560 a B+++, perhaps an A- -.

One more question:

Is there a way to completely switch off the air-conditioning? I don't mean the A/C compressor while leaving the fans on but switching off the fans, A/C, everything? Our 2009 S-Class had an "OFF" button to completely switch off the air-conditioning and fans but in this car I only see a button to turn off the A/C compressor.

I have a 2018, after originally buying a 2017. If I remember corrrectly, the other feature with the 2019-2020 app is the ability to set climate temperatures on remote start. Really handy in extreme heat or cold.

The V-12 powered car is as big an improvement over the V-8 as the V-8 over the V-6. The interior is as much improved as well.

Totally, the V12 though adds some cost and complexity, and you can't get V12 models in the regular body in later years. I have no interest in the Maybach body.

A brief history of our Mercedes-Benz ownership:

In 2001 we bought a brand new 2001 E240. In 2009 we bought a brand new 2009 S350. And now, in 2024, we have this car.

I have to say, there is a massive power difference with this car vs. our last two Mercedes-Benz cars. This thing is FAST. The thrust is addictive.

One note/concern: There is quite a bit of road/tire noise while driving. Is this because of the run-flat tires?

Run flat tires are noisy and will thud over bumps.

There are many tire threads. Read all about it.

RFT magnify any road imperfection and amplify all associated noise.

NRFT cushions both but does not eliminate either.

Thanks.

Is it "okay" or safe to use NRFT on a car that does not come with a spare tire and other related accessories?

Okay, thanks.

I assumed it was okay. Guess the only risk is being stranded if you have a flat.

Runflats and te 20" wheels. Non runflats will improve the ride and reduce noise a good bit.

Beautiful car!!

One note, you can now buy run flat tires that are manufactured with foam inside the tires. The foam dampens raod noise in all situations; smooth roads, bumps, even in the rain. That way you keep the run flats, and reduce road noise. They're expensive, but if it's worth it to you it might be a good choice.

Interesting about the tire foam for noise reduction ... is this available on NRFTs too?

Oh, and somewhat on the same topic, I see where some Lexus models claim to have noise-reducing wheels.

..............
Yessir, all the major brands have tires that reduce road noise. They have their branded names they're all just adding foam inside the the tires.
https://www.pirelli.com/tires/en-us/...tO_Rl-U5ue7Vn_
https://www.michelinman.com/auto/why...tic-technology
https://www.continental-tires.com/pr...s/contisilent/
https://www.goodyearautoservice.com/...ogy/13738.html

The W223 S550 comes standard with tires that reduce road noise, Bridgestone Turanzas. I can't remember if they were run flat or not, but they definitley reduced road noise. I have to admit, I really liked that feature. That car was whisper quiet up to 70 mph, even on less than perfect roads.
One of the reasons I liked Continental DSW06+ tires is they were quieter than Michelin PS tires, and MUCH quieter than similar Pirelli's, none of those three had foam inserts.

I feel that foam inserts is just a marketing hype that barely makes any real or measurable different if removed. I have them on our Tesla, and next time I replace tires I have no interest in foam-inserts tires (I will pick options regardless of that feature).
I had the Continental DSW06+ on the W222, and have the same on the X7 now. Those are the best tires I ever have; absolutely quite and super comfortable. I tested 5 different brands/sets of tires between two W222 I owned. The DSW06+ is absolutely the best option. TireRack also shows some tests comparing them against other brands, and the DSW06+ ranks among the best if not the best last time I checked their pro tests.

2024 S580
My S580 has foam filled Hankook runflats. The road noise is dramatically reduced from my S560 on non runflat tires without the foam. I can't say whether its the foam or that the W223 is just better isolated from the road than the W222, but my S580 there is almost zero road noise on any surface.

When I go to replace them I will seek out foam filled tires just in case they do in fact help.
