Thanks For posting!! That was very informative. I have to replace my serp belt soon and will inspect this closely. I hate replacing inferior design parts with exact same part. Sometimes there is no choice. BMW has molded heater hoses like that. They go too as I have replaced them. But that was at 120K. I dont agree it has to be plastic. I can see using a heat gun to heat those ends and slicing with a razor to remove. Then configure some molded hoses, would be a longer/better solution. Just a thought.

I've read of these breaking a few times, but there doesn't seem to be any consistent mileage. Is there a reason you picked 50k miles? Also, I assume this is a major job?

Just from what I have been hearing and from some forum members. Would not want to get stranded somewhere with that leak. Would really put a damper on vacation. Preventative maintenance.
