Anyone thought about eventually going the EV route and a MB EQE Amg?

I looked at one today at the dealer and was actually pretty impressed. Yes it’s very different but from all I’ve heard it’s a great car. Very nice color combo too and the interior is beautiful. It goes for sticker of 120k and has a range of around 300 miles and 0 to 60 in 3.1 seconds around 700 hp the salesman told me.

I'll own an EV someday, and it will likely be a Mercedes product, but I think the current EQS and EQE are hideous. I explored the EQS at my local dealer one day when I dropped my car off for service, and I immediately thought there's no way I could see myself trading one of the most beautiful S-Class sedans every created for an egg-shaped car that looks like a cheap hatchback. I love the hyperscreen and I'm hoping that appears in the refreshed W223; however, I have zero interest in the EQS at this time.

For me, my next car has to be an S level car (S, SL, GLS, EQS). But if we're talking pure EV, even if EQS weren't so horrible looking, EVs are still inducing range anxiety in my mind and I couldn't trust them for long trips, which is what I mainly do.

I kinda had the same feelings until I saw this car today up close and personnel. Two things I really wonder is how good can it ride on the 21 inch wheels and very low profile run flat tires? Plus what would the range be if I were having fun with the available 700 hp on tap? 130 miles I dunno? It’s loaded with some really nice features but were I to get rid of my S560 for this I could forever regret giving up the beautiful ride my magic body control gives and the beautiful looks and 500 mile plus range and five minute fuel stops of my 2018 s560.

Personally , regardless to range etc as we have nowhere near enough charging stations here yet, i could not live with that particular dashboard and also the overall outside appearance in my eyes is nowhere near as nice as the S Class .

Eventually everyone will make the move when ICE cars are gradually taken over by EVs. But until then....

For me, it will not be the EQE (AMG or not). First off, I do not think hatchback is appropriate as a sedan.
Then, even though the pic showing the nice ''yacht-design'' of the wooden dash which resembles a yacht's deck, it really needs the Superscreen.

BTW, that EQE AMG is 3.2 sec (not 3.1 sec) for 0-60 and has 617 hp (boosted to 677 briefly when demanded...not 700 hp). That salesman needs better training. Nowadays, these kind of info is available everywhere, particularly in MBUSA website. A salesman needs to convey precise and accurate info of the vehicle to (potential) customers every single time. Period. No excuse.

The EQE is not a hatchback. Which is one of the things I like about the EQS better.

Have you guys tried one of these and experienced the braking? Maybe they've fixed it but the car I drove hitting the brake pedal felt like stepping in play-doh!

Yeah Mercedes has set up the regen to move the brake pedal as the regen is applied. One of the biggest complaints about the car.

I stand corrected.

But you have me confused. So, you like the EQS (more than the EQE) because it is a hatchback?

Yes it is more practical.

I don't like EV styling language , they look like stretched low profile MPVs , sorry . However, interior is outstanding only if when you select the display for the passenger side as well .

What sounds good in the classroom doesn’t amount to squat on the playground. ICE will be around longer than any of us.

Will I eventually go EV? For sure. Would I go to an EQE? No, wouldn't do an EQS either.

The ultimate choice for me would be the S-class Plug-in-Hybrid (PHEV) in the ICE chassis (i.e.: W223 or future models). The W223 PHEV with 60-miles is an ultimate choice. I had the feeling for driving an EV, but I wouldn't mind having all my city-short-trips to be on EV. I have a PHEV 5-series BMW and we love it. I just enjoy the ICE better for sometimes when am going for a weekend drive even short trips, EV sucks. But again, PHEV is my ultimate choice but it has to be the ICE chassis. The EQS shape and style is a no go.

The problem with the plug in S Class is it’s VERY slow in EV only mode. I was n EV that’s fast and enjoyable like an EV.

EV is a no-go until a number of issues are resolved for me.

Range. Time it takes to charge. Lack of charging infrastructure and electric power production capacity for it. Lack of soul in electric powertrain. It is not just about that shove in the back.
Safety of the thing in a big crash. When that battery catches fire there is no putting it out. Fire is very rare in our ICE powered cars and fuel tanks being breached in a big crash even less common.

When the battery issue gets solved there is still the reality that every manufacturer makes their electric cars to look like something from the Jetsons or worse. I have zero interest in yelling for all to see but not hear that I’m feeling really smug in my “Environmentally Friendly” car. Leaving out the disaster that goes into manufacturing of batteries.

I’m also really not into the huge screens with no buttons such that one must take attention from driving to perform any other task.

Seems I’ll be driving 222 sedans for a long time.

Another example of the law of EV complaining which states:

With few exceptions, the amount of complaining about EV's is inversely proportional to the fuel efficiency of the vehicle driven by the complainer.

My biggest issue with the EQS/EQE are the hideous seating positions... Feels like you're sitting in a hole. Minivan vibes. No thanks
