So, you have had your S650 a few weeks now, how about a detailed “review” of your new car? Enquiring minds want to know!
Compared to my 2018 S560 with MBC, The S650 has significantly less road noise and rides smoother. The MBC on both cars operates the same, however the S650 absorbs the bumps much better, probably due to its increased weight and wheelbase. Acceleration is more refined, quiet and deliberate in comfort mode. In sport mode it wakes up and accelerator is much more responsive. The S650 feels like a heavier car, and of course it is. Parking, maneuverability, U turns are about the same as the S560, maybe a little bit more difficult but honestly I thought it would be much more and was one of my main concerns using it as my daily driver. In reality it is not noticeable, the S650 is a very easy daily driver. The interior of the S650 is beautifully done, I love the leather headliner. I use the rear seating as a mobile office and actually prefer it to any other quiet place. The tray tables, remote controls, extra leg room for my 6'3" frame, and sound deadening cabin make it a wonderful place to work. The S650 has the 3D stereo which is noticeably better than the standard in the S560. I am not an audiophile and would not pay the hefty price for the upgraded stereo but it's very nice to have. The gas mileage is less than the S560 but definitely worth it for me. Before purchasing the S650 I drove the new S580 and S680. I could not get past the interiors with those after thought stuck on screens and ugly dash designs, my opinion of course. Trunk space might be a little more in the S650 than the S560, I don't have the small refrigerator for the rear seating that takes up some trunk space. My emergency spare I used for the S560 does not fit on the S650 due to the larger brake calibers. I swapped out the original run flats for Michelin PS4S's which make a noticeable difference with less road noise and overall softer ride. I now have to figure out what to do for a spare, may have to get a full size wheel/tire. Any thoughts?
The S650 has the 7 speed transmission, compared to the 9 speed S560. I will say the 9 speed is a little smoother, which is available on the new S680. Overall, I'm very happy with the S650. I plan to run up the miles on this car and when the time comes to replace it, if nothing is convincing on the new models, I will buy another low mileage S650.
