For those of us willing to clean them.... K&N engine air filters get washed and re-used. They are said to add power but I can’t tell the difference in my 279 powered car.

Oh I will do that going forward!

My concern about K&N filters is how well they filter, and the oil blowing through into the intake, I have heard stores. Otherwise I would buy a similar filter.

I wouldn't use an oiled air filter in a modern direct injection engine. I don't care what the manufacturer or enthusiasts claim. You want the intake air bone dry if possible. Only bad things happen with oil mist in the induction system of a modern DI engine.

Yeah that is what has always held me back

We don’t apply oil to the air filters such that they drip! I have been using K&N filters for decades and have never seen any indication of air filter oil ending up in the intake tract. All plumbing is always clean.
There is always oil ending up in the intake charge due to crankcase ventilation.

Just purchased a 2019 S65 AMG Sedan with 7500 miles on it. I decided to change the oil, oil filter and the air filters. Air filters weren't really dirty but I did discover what appeared to be a small, mud based hornets nest in both air boxes below the filters. It was pretty obvious that the car must have sat for extended periods without going anywhere. So, it may make sense to change the filters just to clean out what gets caught in the air boxes. Luckily there were no hornets in the nests.

When you checked the intake valves, how did they look?

Always perfectly clean; as you would expect of a car using port fuel injection. Crud collects at the inlet to the driver’s side turbo from crankcase vapors. I clean that up with every oil change.

You guys with direct injection.... You should invest in a walnut shell blaster to remove all the crap that collects on the backside of intake valves! Of course that requires removal of the intake manifold. Don’t know how many DIY types will be up for it. Were I driving one with DI I’d do that service on it at least every 30,000 miles. Seems another perfectly good reason to keep my bent-12 powered car.

Steve,
I am due for my 40K B service and have been looking all over for the service requirements page you posted.
One dealer here has quoted (w/o wipers) over $800 and another about $560
I called MB customer service and they referred me to the dealer, no help at all.
I do have a Service Information Booklet but it seems as though page 3 is just a picture with a title "Information about your vehicles service"
I have a 2020 S560 4Matic

Where did you find this information?
Thanks,
Todd

Can't take credit for that @S_W222 posted that snippet of the full service sheet originally posted by @konigstiger , here it is attached. Dealers are incredibly variable in service cost. If you can get a dealer to do the 40kB service for $560 with a loaner thats a deal you should jump on.

Thanks for the pdf, I searched the web for that and couldn't find it.
It seems though it is a MB service document.
I will try to get a current 2020 one from the dealer and post that as well.

The 2020 is exactly the same as the 2018, my independent mechanic read off the exact same intervals to me.
