MB M279 V12 vs VAG W12
Doing some long term due diligence on these two engines as potential garage tenants. Also cross-posting in the AMG section because of the low-production volume 12 cylinders have achieved over the years.
It seems on mbworld that the V12s are reasonable to own, if maintenance is adhered to, which is a must for all MBs.
Has anyone owned an MB V12 and a VAG W12 either contemporaneously or sequentially? The W12 is two Reihe-6 engines. It seems to be free of major guaranteed-to-happen issues. On the other hand, there isn't much written about the W12 from an owner's point of view. Bentley owner forums are spread out across the interwebs and the W12 is a recent engine, so not classis-status yet.
I am an SUV person at the moment, so this points toward the W12 in the Bentayga. I wouldn't mind an S65, but the sedan falls short cargo space-wise for us sometimes.
Thanks in advance for any comments comparing the M279 V12 vs the VAG W12.
