Presently 19 S560 SEDAN, 2014 XK, SOLD GLE 450e
Keep the warranty up all the time. I had a S560 Coupe that had a front driveshaft come loose at the front end of it and it banged away at anything in the area that got in the way. Near Seligman on I-40, not all that many miles from Flagstaff, Az. Warranty covered all. Would have cost me out of pocket ten plus thousand bucks or more.

2019 S63 4Matic+, 2018 E400 Cabrio, wardens car.
This is probably a pretty extreme and rare failure. Most aftermarket warranties are designed to maximize profit for the provider. In 10 years and several S Class cars, I have never experience any kind of catastrophic failure that you are describing.
