2010 E350 4Matic
Hey guys, about 4 months ago I purchased a 2015 s550 4matic edition 1 it was used with one owner who was an old lady who used it for business purposes. we bought it with 40k miles and put about 10k miles into it so far. Absolutely love the car. Luckily we bought an extended comprehensive warranty with the vehicle from Toyota. (since it we bought it from them). So the service a4 came on, time to take it into the shop. I was quoted almost 12k in labor and work. fault codes p035313, p030385, p030085. replace cylinder 3 ignition coil. $590. front cylinder head covers are starting to leak. reseal front cylinder head covers $1730. transmission/differential/ transfer case, front diff pinion house seal is leaking. remove trans and front diff, replace seal and hardware $3800. alignment $300. engine mounts are collapsed and weak $4500. spark plugs are due $1050. transmission service $600. Im located in Las Vegas. Its a lot of money to put into this car just to get it running, any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you guys.
It would seem to me that if they removed the front differential, which means dropping the subframe which the engine mounts a connected to, replacing the mounts would be virtually labor free (it was for my W212), so if I'm right, it seems like a double bookkeeping of labor there.
Apparently you have a 4matic so replacing the mounts is labor intensive but $4500 to replace mounts is super expensive.

In 2015 I worked as a service advisor at MB. The techs always wanted obscene figures for labor to replace engine mounts that I have replaced in my own cars in two hours (12 hours to do them in a V-12 powered car!). No joke.... I can do a set of mounts in an E-55 in an hour without breaking a sweat. Little over two hours in a V-12 powered car. Whole lot of clients were happy (techs cried!) when I told them TS I was selling them for four hours for a V-8 and six hours for a V-12. What do you know! Clients would buy engine mount replacement when not astronomically priced. Extended warranty always paid book time so that is how they got sold to every extended warranty.

That plan that the OP purchased (linked below), at least if it was the comprehensive plan, covers almost everything one could think of...?
Except labor...?

Evap parts are covered, including gas caps charcoal canisters and all valves.
Ignition coils are covered but spark plugs and plug wires are not.

I have got a number of exhaust manifolds covered.
Those looking for an extended warranty will do well to have someone who is well versed in auto repair review the contract as it spells what is and is not covered. What looks to be a ‘long list of covered items’ is often a list of things that don’t fail..... and if it isn’t on that list it isn’t covered!

I bought a 2004 S500 once with 38,000 miles on it. From a private dealer. Maybe around 2009 so low mileage. I went right out and got a Chrysler warranty. It paid for a lot!
I wish folks understand that owning a Mercedes-Benz is expensive!

15 edition 1 s550 4 matic coupe, 08 Chevy duramax 2500hd 34k mi, 87 ford bronco 2 32k mi, 72 pantera
ended up paying 3k out the door for mounts labor and some other issues. I was quoted at 12k without the warranty. And the person who showed the warranty is the exact same one as I have. I also seen somebody post that the car isn’t worth 47k. I’ve seen non edition 1s going for 45k. Not saying it’s worth 47k but would just assume it would be more than a normal s550.

In short they are most definitely taking advantage and no an S550 is not going for $45k unless it's got delivery miles.

Yeah, no way. You’re in S560 pricing at $47k

These are good cars, but very expensive to work on. Unless you can work on them yourself, at least do some of the work, any repairs are going to be expensive enough to cry.
Dealer quoted me $800 for spark plugs. DIY - $120. It's not difficult, but not stupid easy either. Not 4 hours work though.
Same with coils. Genuine Mercedes coil is $75 and probably take you an hour. Its not $600 worth of work. The technician is going to get $30 for this job.
If he does the plugs, it not any extra time as he has to take off the coils to get to the plugs anyway. You replace all the coils and all the plugs for $700
I got a quote for engine mounts from independent with OEM parts - $2000. I had alignment done at dealer few months ago, $220 or something like that.

Not terribly expensive to work on if you have a good independent shop.

With a hoist and ability to work on cars even the S65 is within reach. I just have to behave myself so rear tires last longer than 10,000 miles.
I got to do three sets of them last year. She is less than amused.
