How.to get hands free trunk to open?

Can anyone get their trunk to open with their foot? I think I’m going too far underneath. Yes I’ll read the owner’s manual. I just can get it to work 1 time out of 10.

Works for me pretty reliably as long as car is not too dirty.
Important to do motion up and down, not side to side.

It is a bit finicky in my experience. Generally when it's not working then I'm kicking too close to the bumper or I'm kicking too fast. You have to step back a bit and don't try to kick the ball out of the field . I often have to kick two or three times. It also seems to work better if the car is unlocked first. That seems to wake it up.

I kick it gently and place my foot just in the middle of the trunk not too fast . Honestly, other brands' seem to work more reliable to my experience

This. We tried with the wife’s W212, but always side-to-side. Rarely worked.

When we purchased the W222, the salesman showed us by kicking under the license plate, straight under & back.

We can now open with a kick reliably on both cars. Seems we were doing it wrong for 8 years….

You kick directly underneath the center of the back of the car (as mentioned, where license plate is). Kick under the car, forward and back, not side to side or up and down. Literally just stick your feet under and pull it back, not too fast but not too slow. Maybe 1-2 seconds. Works 90% of the time for me, when it doesn’t work it’s usually because the car is perhaps car is dirty underneath or I kicked too fast. I use this feature almost every time I open the trunk because I don’t want to touch the car’s dirt or dust and dirty my hands. I always close the trunk with the button and it bothers me that a lot of people close the trunk by touching the trunk lid’s exterior.. they tend to swipe dirt away and leave behind their handprint lol

Thanks. Does anyone want to ride in my back seat and do this for me when I need to open the trunk? I have snacks.

LOL ... another one of those goofy features that sorta works. I think I got it to work once, haven't tried it again

Does rain affect this? Because I finally got it working then it rained a lot and it wasn’t working again.

You have to have the key in proximity to the trunk as well. Doesn't work if you walk up to the car without the key in your pocket.

Well the key was a few inches away in my pocket.

Mine works pretty much all th time, I can only remember once when it didn't work. Same thing for my previous W222, worked like a charm. Main thing is to go slow like the previous posts said. I'd also add to give it a second to move, not quite a full second. And I can tell you it works better than on my wife's Venza, which always takes longer to react.

Mercedes-Benz should sell a shoe with a trunk sensor in it, so it works all the time.

Wait, is this an option, or something that we all have with the Premium Package?

I think it’s called Hands Free Access. I can’t find the code. I don’t find it useful. I just have my butler open the trunk. He waits by the car until I’m done shopping. He complains about the rain but isn’t that why he gets paid?

Option Code: 871 SENSORS FOR TRUNK LID OPENING/CLOSING

Here's the video showing how it works, remember the car must be turned off for it to work:

I see this option, I’ll have to look into this:
871 HANDS-FREE ACCESS

You’re so fancy, actually paying your butler, mine works for scraps from my table and a bed in the garage next to my S Class.
