Self parking feature and how it sees parking spaces (still haven't used it)

I was out on a city street this morning trying to park so I tried using the Self Park feature in my 2020 S560. It seems to recognize parking spaces if it's CAR1 SPACE CAR2. But not when it's CAR1 LOTS OF SPACE CAR2. My car did find a space and started parking but honestly I was a little nervous and stopped it. Because the way it shows the available space didn't seem obvious. Example, the little indicator looks perpendicular to the parking area not parallel. When I tried a nice open area on the street, it was not finding a parking space. Does this work pretty well for most people?

P.S. I seem to have figured out how to open the trunk with my foot. Thanks.

Interesting to hear what people say about this ... I've never used it in my car. I think people said on here it can get too close to the curb and scrape your wheels ...

That was my thought this morning. And it would have been a tight fit where the CAR wanted to go versus where I wanted to go.

There's a point where he says "select the preffered space" but he doesn't show how to do it. How do you "select the space"?

“May not recognize the curb”.

lol

I learned something today. I’ll keep trying in different situations.

The few times I used it, it worked quite well, but I haven't used it in years. It was kinda handy at first as I was getting used to the dimensions of the car and how to read the 360 camera, but now it's much easier to just park myself with the help of the 360 camera. The whole thing is a bit of a gimmick. If there are cars behind you when you try to park on the street it won't move and in general the process is slower than parking myself. Also as said, it can only park between two other cars. It came in handy a couple of times when I parked in a really dark area and couldn't make out the curb on the camera. I probably would have ended up curbing my wheels in that situation whereas the parking assist had no problems. The part of it that is useful is the measuring of the space, so if I'm driving along the street looking for a parking spot, arrows in the instrument cluster show when it found a large enough space on either side of the street next to the P symbol in the instrument cluster. However, you have to drive past the space first before it fully recognizes it, but if I'm not sure visually if the car's gonna fit, this is helpful.

Three of our cars have that feature. I basically only use it when I want to make the woman nervous and frankly I'm just as nervous as she is never hit a wheel though

Ford is discontinuing this same feature along with some others that are almost never used, projected to save $2B.

I've never used this feature on my MB, another thing to learn and I can park well myself. I guess nice to have if needed.

I have to say it was scary at first for fear of clipping the car anywhere but Mercedes-Benz's is less cumbersome than other cars with that feature . I rarely use it but letting the car leave out the parking space is very cool

I love the 360 view camera for parking, but it often does not pop on until the last minute. Is there a way to manually turn on the camera to make it easier to park or adjust the settings so that it’s on at slightly faster speeds?

It never works when I really want it to, but, when it does work it's very entertaining.

In our GLS there is a button, it is like two spins of the wheel, a click a click and a spin of the wheel...I end up just putting the car in R and it turns on the cams. In the E's the only way I can find is R (then D gives the front view with 360). In the C it is just out the back.

It should come on immediately if you put the transmission in R. I've also added it to my Favorites as the first item on the list, so if I'm pulling in forward I just select the camera from there. It's two clicks, first the favorites button on the steering wheel, then select the camera.
