Help!
I hate to join and post under these circumstances (problems) but here goes.
I bought a 2014 S63 with 30k miles a few months ago. Everything is great but it had (has) a small issue. In certain, specific circumstances, it seems like the trans wants to shift, where there is a rhythmic surge... It doesn't do it all the time, only at around 30 percent throttle and normally only after aggressive driving, when it's warm (according to AMG screen for trans temp)...
So I put my foxwell scanner on it early on and saw it had an ISM fault. I did not record the number at the time, I cleared it, and it has been away since then. It has not come back.
So I did a trans service, filter fluid and the rest.
Now, on hard acceleration (full throttle) sometimes, there is a violent vibration between 1st and 2nd gear, right at the shift. It very rarely does it in sport mode, but nearly always in comfort.
Then, I got a code P07230 output shaft rpm sensor - which makes sense! Alas, I cleared it and it has not come back, the vibration continues.
At first I thought maybe I got fluid in a connector, so I took it back apart and thoroughly cleaned the connectors with electrical contact spray. I put it together and it seems a little better, but I can still get it to do it. Again neither the ISM code nor the output rpm sensor code have come back.
I have reset the adaptations and every thing that came up on the quick scan which was nothing to do with the drive line...
I'm down to thinking the trans needs a factory program/tune or the torque converter is messing up or trying to lock inappropriately. But this vibration is violent...
All regular mechanical things were thoroughly checked, like mounts and such.
Thanks for any help!

More likely that a sensor is on it's way out, check actual values.
Remember a fault only sets when the signal is completely implausible or out of range.

You have the MCT which does not have a torque converter. It uses a dual plate wet clutch (think motorcycle) and it sounds like something is terribly wrong in there.
I'd leave this one to a pro personally as that is not a cheap transmission to replace ....

The pre 2014 S63 DOES have a torque converter. The MCT wet clutch began in 2018 for the S63, I think they were put into E63 a couple years earlier, but not until 2018 for the S63.

Assuming that you meant the pre 2018 (Pre 2014 wouldn't make sense here), I think that it is the other way around ie the pre 2018 have a MCT transmission and the 2018 and later have a torque converter.

2014 to 2017 S63's have the 7 speed auto with traditional torque converter. In 2018 they moved to a new MCT 9 Speed transmission with no torque converter.

I stand corrected on the 2018 plus years, misread some articles when they said that the 2018 9 spd with MCT was as smooth as a torque converter unlike the sometimes jerky prior 7 spd with MCT. Which is to say the 2014 -2017's S63 have a MCT

What do yous think are the odds that this is wheel hop - hear me out.
I drove it today and got it to do it twice. First time, I noticed that the vibration happens a few beats before the shift. The second time, I induced it up my driveway, which is still asphalt, and sure enough it was significantly before the shift. Also, I felt the fall off of traction control kicking in (I think).
My GLI would do the same thing on a clutch dump, but at a lower frequency. With this issue seemingly moving around the RPM band, I am leaning toward believing that my fluid change has tightened up the shifts to the point that the tires are trying to break loose and the traction control interferes. I have Michelin pilot sports on it, and a long with it being 4matic makes me think that yes, at or near the peak HP the tires want to let go.
I have not tried it with the suspension in sport, as I've only thought to do that today after getting home. I will go out later and see if a former suspension will make a difference.
What are your thoughts?
