Engine oil level check inoperative

Anyone else get this message when trying to access the oil level check feature?

I've let the engine cool. I tried to perform the check before starting the car. Nothing seems to work.

See pg 411 in your manual or thereabout, not sure what model you have.

For the onboard computer check it needs to be warm/normal temp, at idle, and on a level surface.

It also measures it while driving and can take up to 30 min.

You can also check oil level through the workshop window. This is accessed through Assyst plus where service reset is performed.

I have found it takes time. Check it after a drive. Let it idle, etc.

If no luck maybe time for a dealer or indy shop visit. Sure a service rep would be glad to check it.

I know this is going to sound like heresy, but I wouldn't worry about it until the idiot light comes on telling you you're one quart low, and then add 1 qt! Keep a quart in the trunk for peace of mind. If M-B really wanted you to be able to check the oil level, they'd have installed a dipstick.
