Coolant

Hello guys,

My S450 pop up some message to add coolant. Which coolant do you guys recommend ?
There are 2 coolant reservoir. One for engine/radiator and one for turbos. Can I use the same coolant ?

Thanks.

Same coolant for both, I use the MB branded coolant which requires it to be mixed 50/50 with water. Other brands like Zerex and Peak are perfectly fine to use also just check the labels for "Mercedes." The center reservoir doesn't give off messages when low I believe, so it may be the main res thats reading low. I've removed my engine cover and never put it back on to make my periodic fluid checks easier.

When my system needed a few ounces, I just added distilled water.

Hey all!
Is the transmission cooler fluid the same as the engine one?

EDIT: Sorry, I just saw the second comment that they are the same!

On the W222 S550, the main coolant circuit takes care of the engine and transmission. There's a secondary circuit for the turbos, and on the hybrids, there's a another one for the battery, and they're all independent with their own separate reservoirs.

The main reservoir for the engine/trans is under the passenger side panel, the turbo one is under the engine beauty cover, and the hybrid is under the driver side panel.

They all use the same MB Pink coolant.

Hope that helps!

I use Zerex G40 (pink cap) that comes 50/50 pre-mixed -- about $20/gal jug.
