I just received a small gift box from mbusa with an apology for their original poor response and a mercedes picnic blanket, duffel bag, umbrella and an insulated drink flask. Of course, getting the authorization to have the dealer replace all the window trim is the best part of their response.

i guess sometimes an email causes a great response.

I was at the dealer today. They said that trim is plastic. The parts department brought a piece out in a sealed factory bag, it certainly was plastic!

Thanks for the information. They must have gone the plastic route on all the later cars. The youtube videos of earlier s series show them refinishing aluminum. Disappointing that on a top level offering, the trim is plastic.

Sorry, I should have said it differently. It’s thin Aluminum over Plastic. It certainly is Anodized Aluminum cladding. I had a detailing expert today (he’s far beyond your average detail man - doing trade shows, blogs and teaching people his trade of 50 years) and he showed me several ways how to get rid of that spotting. One is using ceramic polish and rubbing with a white Mr. Clean sponge (a soot eraser), Secondly, white cream rubbing compound or white tooth paste but don’t use any buffer. The last way is to remove by the paint correction method starting with 8,000 grit and clear coat the finish last. I did the top of the passenger side window's before diner and it came out flawless. I’ll take pictures tomorrow.
