The Best Buy $99 is for installation ONLY. You can either buy the unit you want installed from Best Buy or you can purchase your cameras from a third party and Best Buy will install everything for $99. I used the Best Buy $99 install on four vehicles - both with front and rear cameras and an auxiliary battery. The install was outstanding. All wires were hidden and everything worked perfectly.

I assume you're talking about a dashcam? I personally would take the car to a higher end audio shop for the install. That's what I did, $250 but worth the extra to have somebody doing it that was accustomed to working on high end cars.

Automated garage parking: I would love it if the sensors could learn or detect my garage door opening, the position of my wife's car, etc and pull in, stop the car and put in it 'P' in exactly the ideal position. That's a function you could use every time you drive the car!
Hey Tom, thanks. I'd like to push back on the dual-action trunk release/opener. While I like the idea of the feature, the last thing you want to happen is to need to push a button a second time while your hands/arms are full. For some reason, the trunk has only opened halfway several times on both my current car and my S550. I HATE when that happens. I was picking up some grass seed and fertilizer a couple months ago and had 40lb bags in each hand when my trunk only opened halfway. Super annoying, but maybe that's just me.

Your idea about automated parking is covered in #5 on the list. Mercedes automated parking is awesome, just wish it were available, and never came across anything that explained why it isn't available. Keep em' coming

Do you really think the difference is worth it? Maybe you have better experiences in your area. I've gone to several car stereo shops and haven't had great experiences. I feel like they're trying to sell the most expensive thing every time. Maybe it's because I used to install car audio myself that I'm a little jaded/sensitive, but their behavior doesn't inspire confidence with me. One of the members who lives close to me has had better experiences then me. Maybe the location makes a difference. But the good thing about Best Buy is that they have the resources to cover any problems. If something unfortunate happens, they have the money to make things right.

Oh, 100%. The people that work at Best Buy are just kids with no training or experience, they work on Corollas and cheap cars installing cheap stuff. A good well regarded stereo shop with good reviews that works regularly on higher end cars is absolutely worth the premium when you're talking about removing interior panels on a car like this.

Best Buy has the money to make things right, but will they? They don't care about their individual reputation the way a privately owned stereo/custom shop does. I can absolutely see the 21 year old zit faced Best Buy manager telling you to gop fly a kite when his guys break your $4,000 console. A well regarded shop who cares about their reputation?

Plus at the end of the day, its $150 more to have better people doing the work. What is $150 when we're talking about a $120,000 car?

IMO having something installed in an S Class at Best Buy is like having the oil changed at Jiffy Lube.

I just installed mine 2 days ago. Took out the ash tray and tapped into the back of the cig lighter plug. Took maybe 2 hours and hid the wires along with pillar and underneath the glovebox. Way easier than I thought. So if you are handy and it sounds like you are, definitely don't need someone to mess that up for you.

Not sure I explained correctly, the dual action trunk idea relates just to the switch inside the car. I would keep the key fob button and leg kick as pure opener - as you said, when outside the car full opening is the preferred behavior.

And my automated parking idea was specific to one's garage at home. The car would learn the shape and dimensions of the driveway, garage door, and where you park the car normally inside. So, you turn into your driveway, push the button and the car pulls itself in and stops in the ideal position, detects and avoids any obstacles, etc. This function would require a little training to learn these variables. In my garage, if I pull forward just the right amount, I have about a foot behind the car to walk around it with the door closed. I have a lot of practice now and almost always get it right, but would be sweet if the car knew to leave twelve inches and I didn't have to think about it!

I fully agree that I'd never ever let a place like BestBuy touch my car and remove panels and interior trims. Even further, I have big concerns for a high-end audio shop to do that same job.... Glad I have sufficient courage, with skills and tools needed, to do it myself with absolute care. I have taken enough panels out of my BMWs and two of my previous Benz before, that am even familiar with the type of clips and how they feel, click, and sound when installed or removed. If I wasn't 100% confident about my own abilities to do it myself, the next would be a high-end audio shop. But, BestBuy would never ever be on that list. I think I installed the dashcam myself on almost every single car I owned in the past 10 years except couple of them... and by that am referring to more than a dozen of cars.

Most of my cars have light interior, and often white or beige ....as a guy who covers his seats and sets on a beach towel any day I wear blue jeans to avoid die transfer to my seat (as crazy as it sounds), I surely wouldn't allow anyone to touch my car (I even hate when I hand it to the dealer for oil change). I know that am on the extreme side of things.. but that's just me. Despite that, I don't think that not handing it to BestBuy is an extreme.. I wouldn't recommend that to any S-class owner, not just me.
