I was surprised last year when I had mine replaced an insurance covered the OEM. It was $2800 on the invoice, paid @ 100%!
** I do NOT go through Safelite after a couple of bad experiences with them, even though that's who my insurance defaults to. There's an option to use my own vendor, so years ago I asked the dealer who they use and they gave me their name.

Don't be scared of Safelite, they did one for me and it was fine. Lots of threads here on windshields. Try and go OEM, my insurance covered it after a call to them.

My car is at the dealer right now havign the windshield installed. I only wanted OEM, insurance paying and $0 deductible on the claim, so no out of pocket expense for me. See who your local MB dealer recommends for windshield replacement. They might work together like in my case, delaer does calibration after auto glass company replaces windshield, all in one day, all covered by the claim. I got the idea from one of the members here who posted about doing it this way.

Thanks for everyone's response. My car is going to the MBZ dealer for an OEM glass and all calibrations. Not sure yet that insurance will cover it all, but they said to pay the MBZ dealer up front and then send the bill to them for reimbursement. I'm taking a chance that they will cover everything. The insurance company did not say otherwise.
I just think it is a good idea to have all the work done by the same shop. That way....if anything goes wrong I do not have to "guess" who might be responsible for the correction. So far.........so good. Looks like the car will go into the shop as soon as the windshield arrives (next week).

Your insurance will pay for OEM but you have to be firm with them that you will only accept OEM. I had to replace the windshield for a 2018 S560 2 years ago with Allstate Insurance. Initially, they told me my only option was Safelite. My S560 had night vision, a front-facing camera, Distronic, and several other options. Long story short, Safelite kept trying to get me to take their standard S-class windshield. There are 9+ different windshields for the S Class (depending on your options). Final cast for OEM glass installed by my MB dealer was $4,800. Allstate was not happy but they paid in full. It took 6 weeks to get the job done.

Here is the response from my insurance company. I'm going for the dealership windshield replacement, and "gamble" that I will get full reimbursement (~$4,000). Sounds like I have the same windshield as "fun33". I will let you know how this plays out.
Our claims department does not work directly with dealerships, so you will need to pay for the entire amount of Mercedes invoice upfront. Please provide the paid invoice and paid receipt once the work has been completed and I will forward that documentation to our claims department for reimbursement.
If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.

Went with Safelight for the S, and had no issues either. They recalibrated everything, and it all works as before. I wouldn’t hesitate to do either again.

I just had my windshield replaced at the MB dealership. I asked for OEM glass and it was approved by my insurance company. When picking up the car yesterday I noticed the glass looks different. It no longer has the old "Carl Benz" signature like the old windshield. It says "Mercedes" in a completely different font from before, thicker lettering. I asked the SA if this is in fact OEM glass and he assured me it is. I looked at an E63 that was parked in the service bay and it had the newer looking insignia on the glass. I'm surprised I haven;t heard about that on this forum.

It should be in your policy, if I'm not mistaken !

I'm with Safeco, which is owned by Liberty Mutual, I have a $1000 collision deuctible, but no deductible on windshield replacement. You might have a samilar option with your current insurer.

I've had State Farm my whole life, and yet all 5 of my Mercedes windshield replacements have varied somewhat. The one constant, through all the claims, was that I had to INSIST on OEM REPLACEMENT. In each case, State Farm had to choke on it for a few hours or days, before finally agreeing that my policy did indeed cover OEM glass.
Sometimes they sent a check directly to my house. Sometimes they've sent the check to the M-B dealership. In one case, they overestimated and I ended up pocketing a small ~$40 difference. In a couple cases, they slightly underpaid, and I covered the small remainder of about ~$50.
Be persistent and get what you want.
Good Luck!
