Oh that smell!

I was asked by someone considerign buying an S-Class if I use my air freshener. I told him it is one of my favorite features of the car, I love it!

Its one of my favorite features too!

If you don’t believe in voc’s benzene, formaldehyde, phthalates, it ok but its a warning to those that might wind up in a situation like I did. I’d post some links, but you apparently don’t believe in non partisan science and have shown your inability to have a rational learning experience without personally attacking me. Perhaps when one of your family or pets is effected, your brain will understand.
And buddy, if you don’t want a stranger’s opinion, get off the internet and back into the casino.
I’ve even posted a picture of the outcome of my situation because it’s easier than reading for you. This took two days and an extreme amount of benedryl to start to resolve over a week... all from touching a surface near a plug in.
This is what those hazardous chemical deposits can do to you.

Funny how cows don't smell like leather coats! Why? Because that "wonderful" leather smell is produced by the tanning process. I worked in a rendering plant and tanning plant as a kid...Mike Rowe has NOTHING on me!!
Speaking of BO. I'm 6'4" 300+ lbs, used to be 330lbs so yes, I have BO. I wear deodorant, and cologne, and love to smell good. And by extension I like my car to smell good...it's not a crime!
I still don't have a "favorite" smell, I'll have to stop by a Tommy Bahama store prior to buying the scent.
. Yes I’m aware of what new car smell and the VOCs associated with that and the newer tanning processes and regulations around these emmisions from car materials. However, the large majority of those vocs off-gas quickly and over the years and to an acceptable level. My statements were intended to educate about the dangers of these added and continuous emmisions and the reality that they are dangerous in some circumstances and for some people and why choose this over nothing. My seemingly absurd questions were all serious. There is a huge chemical difference between alcohol based colognes and air fresheners as I’m sure you know.My last question would be about me wondering if this would have taken care of Jerry’s car after the valet incident.
I only made it through about one sentence of any of that before I lost interest.I’ll enjoy inhaling my VOCs etc and enjoying my ignorance lol. Not sure why you having an allergic reaction impacts any of us. Not everybody has your medical weaknesses or sensitivities.

Anyway, that’s my 2 cents (for the second time).

These days life is so much safer........um, yeah. But, to your point about cancer? Well, I think that might only be in California. ;-(

Or bathes in it. Nor do I care if you smoke it or inject it while carrying a gun and speeding. I have zero problem with independent thinking or civil liberties. Perhaps some people are just going to be sensitive when they think I am talking to them or trying to persuade them or their own choices, but I’m not and it only is displaying their insecurity and weakness to make assumptions personally about me. I don’t have any known allergies or medical weaknesses and am near perfect health. Having a reaction to hazardous chemicals is not a medical weakness. This was a case of you don’t know until you know. Once again for those that can’t absorb the English language (or comment with admittedly not reading) this information was for those that care to know and might be intrigue enough to learn further. Sure, my grandfather was sprinkled in pesticides in the war and was fine until he was 95, but I also had a neighbor that was exposed from off gassing pesticides into their basement of their parsonage and it killed her husband and caused her to have brain surgery and literally go insane. I guess I’m happy to have learned about certain dangers from others experiences.
All good though. Enjoy your fresh fruity breeze. In the words of Jack Nicholson, “you can’t handle the truth”
If you have a serious reaction to something that the vast majority of people have no reaction to, thats a medical weakness or allergy that you specifically have and others don't. You clearly are unusually sensitive to this type of thing. Why doesn't everybody who touches a plug in air freshener blow up like you did? Because they don't that issue.
For instance many people are seriously allergic to peanuts...that doesn't mean peanuts will hurt most people or that peanuts are universally dangerous.

I’ve been near hundreds or thousands of air fresheners over decades. I work daily with chemicals, pesticides, molds, mildews, fungus, abrasives, fine powders and hazardous products. I work in an industry where VOCs in the air are a normal daily occurrence. Our msds binder contains thousands of pages. This was one brand and one time for my face, and one time with breathing at an air bnb that was closed up and had multiple units in a bedroom that was not aired out. It does not happen when I’m near an air freshener or use one or touch one but makes me aware that some chemical combos can have a negative consequence. As for my face, like most people I can normally open my eyes, lol. I’m a skinny white guy with no fat on my face and don’t have a 1/4 inch of fluid under my skin. The fluid was under my skin and not in my sinuses. The vast majority of people do have reactions to the chemicals mentioned when they are above safe levels. Msds and the hazards mentioned are not my opinion, nor political. It takes the right situation to have the issue, such as when there is over exposure in a tight area and a chemical change due to other chemical reactions during volatilization. We all use soap, I hope, and if you’ve ever left soap on your skin, you know it can cause burns but that does not mean you have an allergy or medical weakness to soap. I digress however as people that don’t care about facts or science can’t be spoken with in a reasonable manner. I still get amazed that people want to argue their own beliefs instead of becoming educated with facts. I’m not trying to convince anyone of their safety because that’s not debatable. I’m letting people know that if they put the wrong chemical in the unit, there can be negative unforeseen consequences.
My true inquiry along with my statement to beware was why would anyone voluntarily add the rich version of little trees to their high end luxury car unless there was some greater problem with smells or ventilation. I’ve only seen one valid answer to that but multiple attacking me or science….for what, self satisfaction, measuring contest?
I suppose if I was a 10-year-old TikTok star that had just “discovered” MSDS‘s more would be interested.

You are right, and everyone who enjoys the fragrance option is wrong (hundreds of thousands of us).
You don’t like the feature, doesn’t mean the feature is wrong or bad. Just turn it off.

Should anyone have trouble breathing or develop a rash, please consult with a doctor and stop using the product. For everyone else, sniff on.
