The low beam cutoff in your photo is definitely lower (shorter sight distance) than mine.

I think that’s where the comment comes from.

yup… even the factory (or say legal) calibration, they are still higher than I like for any of my cars. Usually I keep aiming them higher until they are just around/above the license plate of the car in front of me from a far distance.. therefore I know they are set higher than factory, but wouldn’t blind anyone. Luckily I can do that for my Tesla right from the screen electronically… I never needed to do that on any of my german cars with adaptive headlights unlocked anyway.

Well late today the Carmax general manager asked me in an email if there is any shops near me that can fix my headlight problem. Either he is doing me a favor and saving me the trouble of an hour’s drive to their store and the loaner car I would need or I’m a great PITA he wants to avoid.
I’m nibbling away their profits

Dealer is right.. no reason to drive an hour for something like that (other than avoid digesting the cost of adjusting them). It will take a beginner no more than 1-2 minutes to align each of them them up. In fact you can do that in your garage if you follow best practices and carefully search online on how to do it.

I don’t have the time right now to play with the lights. I will get someone this week to look and take care of this problem this week. Carmax is stepping up and letting me get all that I need and is sending me several reimbursement approvals via email already. At this rate I might just retract what I said about them!

Wow… that’s good to know. Glad to see CarMax stepping up; I’ve honestly always heard good things about them. And yes, it’s often great to wait a few days before writing a formal review/feedback when things don’t go well. Anyway am glad they taking care of you like they should.

I asked the MB dealer if low beams could be manually or software adjusted and they insisted I make an appointment this Thursday AM at a local MB dealer for the headlights. At this same time I asked if they did the ILS + coding. They said if I brought the car in and they found some codes were changed it would void any warranty I may have. Furthermore the service manager said If something happened and an LED blows from some manipulation of the voltage, the headlight is about $4,000 per light plus the controller per side.

Always remember the person you speak with at the dealership is just an idiot, he knows not about the car but will make it up with confidence.
Techs don't check coding they just SCN, they won't know if anything was changed because they don't care
(Note that this is NOT the case for tuning an engine module).
They of course won't code ILS, they don't even know what you are talking about and they have no idea how to do that and their tools won't allow them to if they did.
There is no voltage alterations in coding the ILS.

They can however bring out the big rack and align your lights.

and as there is no "manipulation of the voltage", no problem getting ICH+/ILS+. It is just setting them to full MB ECE specs,

Coding is just something you don't want to talk about with the dealer lol
