Magic Sky
Shopping a newer S560 and found one with the rare 'Magic Sky' option. For those who have this, how well does it work and how often do you use it? On very hot, sunny days, do you wind up closing the shade to completely block out heat?
IIRC, the default setting is opaque and energizing the glass makes it clear. Does it become clearer in steps, or is it more of an off or on function?

Interestingly my Maybach did not have that feature had just about all the option but that and the silver glasses.. I did drive a SL600 with it and it was very cool. If you hit the dark setting it eliminates the need to close the shade. Simple as that.
More important to me thought is having the 3D sound system. That system was epic!!!! Worth every penny.

But, I love it. It's kind of a parlor trick, however the purpose is to block out harmful UV rays while still allowing light to enter the car. I'm not worried about UV rays but I do love the opaque quality of light that comes in the car on bright sunny days. I'm 50/50 blue/clear in the summer months and always clear during the long winter months. My shade is always open. Kind of ironic since I keep all the other blinds closed all the time. For someone in TX who enjoys sunshine, but with the type of skin where UV rays are a concern, Magic Sky is an awesome feature!
My only concern is when it breaks. I can only imagine how much it will cost, or if it will even be possible to repair at that point. I'll just enjoy it until it goes.

Question I have… when the interior shade is closed does it stay on / blue or does it go to clear?

Mine has it and it’s nice. When on (blue tinting) no need to close the shade due to heat. Nice blue tint on the inside also. I can’t really see it from the drivers seat, but for rear passengers it’s probably nice to look at.

Had it on the SL and I enjoyed that option immensely. It gave me another way of letting light in and feel "open convertible" without actually dropping the top. I guess though its no different than just have a moonroof with a shade. Still kind of wish I had that option on the S.

My Magic Sky is certainly incrementally adjustable. I keep it on full Blue tint as is makes the Aluminum trim around the interior somewhat iridescent. The owner prior to me had to replace the roof and in sometime between 2022 and ‘23 he had to replace it - $4,200
if I ordered this car I wouldn’t find paying $4,999 worth it - unless of course I had the means that made buying no different than buying a Coke and hotdog at Cosco.

What does that mean??? I've seen several and read articles about this technology. I've only ever seen these work as on or off. When you say incrementally adjustable, are you saying you can adjust the opacity????

If this is contrary to your knowledge perhaps maybe it’s because this roof window/moon roof is just a year or so new to this car. Just my speculation. It seams useless to make the other glass inferred blocking and not the skylite - don’t you think?

When I hold the overhead switch the magic Sky Changes from clear to opaque to blue - dark Blue. I can let go and just where it’s at - it stays. According to Mercedes that glass is inferred light blocking just as the other windows are in this car.

I just read about it again and it stops both infrared light and UV light regardless of whether it's clear or opaque...that's cool! Maybe that part is all marketing hype, no way for me to independently confirm. All I know is that it works and I really like it. If I were leasing a brand new car I'm not sure I'd pay the extra $5K for it, for just a couple years to have it, but it's great to have over the long term.
