Emergency Key Usage
Curious, I attempted to use the emergency key on my 2018 S560 yesterday. I tried inserting the key into the slot under the driver-side door handle but could not push the key into the slot. Frustrated, I searched YouTube for a solution. The first video I viewed showed a man attempting to insert the key into his own W222 and he encountered the same problem; he must have pushed the key into the slot 10 times with no success. Eventually, he was able to push the key into the slot. Is there an easy trick to get the key in on the first try?
Is this normal? Seems like it should be very easy to push a key into a slot. All this does is enable you to pop the cover off the door handle then you put the same key into the real lock that is only visible after the cover is removed.

Yeah as I understand it, it's a bit of a faff to get this cover off. I probably wouldn't do it with the entire key chain dangling like that and potentially scratching the paint. I never had to use it. My first attempt would be to unlock the car from the Mercedes app before attempting the emergency key.

Have you compared the hard keys in both remotes? I found that although both my remotes work fine, one of the hard keys inside the remote is not correct for my vehicle. I bought the vehicle used so I'm presuming a prior owner tried to cover-up losing the key. From what I understand from prior posts on this forum, getting a new remote isn't easy or cheap. But I haven't seen anybody inquiring about just replacing the hard key. Thoughts anyone?

Ok, so why is OP saying he has a 2018 W222 when it’s actually an older car? The start button is not removable and with anyway to use the emergency key behind the removeable start button if you have any W222 - 2018 and newer.

I heard you can put the dead key or at least a key with bare minimum charge in the battery in the marked spot and press the button to start vehicle.

The dealer will charge you $100 for a new cut key. Or, you can buy blanks from a reputable source and have a locksmith with a laser cutter make a copy for about $40. Depending on the quality of the work and the laser cutter, the cut key may need some minor filing. For the price difference, it probably is better to go with the dealer.
