Lightbulb Considering a 2020 CPO S560 – Maintenance Expectations?

Hello everyone,

I'm planning to buy a used 2020 Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) S560 with under 30,000 miles. One thing that really surprised me is the depreciation—these cars seem to lose value quickly, as I’ve found one priced around $54K. original MSRP was $120k

I plan to keep this car until it reaches 100K–125K miles. Besides the usual maintenance like oil changes, tired and brake pads, what other maintenance costs should I anticipate?

For context, I’ve previously owned an M3 and a Lexus GS, but this would be my first Mercedes. Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I purchased a 2020 S560 CPO in October of 2023, I haven’t put many miles on it, currently at 27k and no surprises, great car, probably too many options that I don’t really need except that I need the extra room that my E Class doesn’t have. If you don’t drive a lot, I’d get a CTEK trickle charger to keep the battery topped off, these cars tend to lose charge. Also read about “standby mode” in the manual when you get a chance. And, every once and a while “stand on it” to blow the cobwebs out. Oh yeah, forget the recommended oil change intervals, I’d go with 5k or a year.

I’ve always had good luck with the last model of a series, which the 2020 S560 is. The W222 is, in my opinion, the best S Class, I hate the next generation’s “tacked-on” ipad dash. I think the W222 is more elegant by far. And, finally, the M176 engine is a winner.

I’ve had my CPO 2020 S560 for about two years, and have had both Service A and Service B performed. Both times, the cost was around $900. No other problems.

As others mentioned, there are two costly mid-life scheduled service items, the transmission and spark plugs (you might budget $1,500 for these at your Indy or $2,000+ at a dealer). Many people eventually need to do motor mounts and front suspension arms/bushings but you may be lucky and get to 90k or 100k miles before those are needed. Another high-mileage item are the driveshaft rag joints that you might do at the same time as the motor mounts (below is a picture of a rag joint, I never knew these were used in a driveshaft before I bought my S-class. Mostly you see them on steering columns by other mfgs)

Beyond that it's just the routine wear items - fluids, filters, brakes, tires, wiper blades, etc. - and any repairs that come up ...
