Japanese import Comand conversion question
I have recently imported a 2018 W222 S450 from Japan to Europe. As expected, it does not have Europe maps, has the annoying "ETC Card not inserted" audio-visual message and only English language option outside Japanese.
I am a newbie on everything about Mercedes infotainment systems.
Any guidance and info on how I can convert this system to European version would be much appreciated. I have so far:
- Found a company based in Netherlands (http://mbnaviworld.nl) who does this conversion. They said that they need "SCN coding" (No idea what it means) to be able to do it and that Mercedes only provides SCN coding to companies, not individual owners like myself.
- Asked my local dealer to see if they can do the conversion. No response yet. I'm guessing they are trying to figure it out themselves.
- Searched Ebay and found some 2nd hand Comand modules for sale.
- Should the dealers be able to do this conversion without problem or is this an unusual task for them too?
- How difficult is it as an individual owner to obtain "SCN coding" from Mercedes for this car?
- Can a 2nd hand EU Comand module be simply installed to perform the conversion or are there any pitfalls to this method (e.g. ECU coding, incompatibility, etc)?
- Would you have any tips and tricks, dos & don'ts for such a conversion need?
Many thanks in advance for your responses.

Need to update the vehicle record in MB database to change the country designation and then SCN coding would reprogram the unit to new region. I am not aware of any region incompatibility but there might be (eg NTSC vs Pal).
You cannot simply install another used module as it will have theft protection.
