My version of WIS expired so I cannot be sure but since i also owned a S600 I recall the filter is in the fuel tank and not something you attend to till over 100k miles on the car. IF I recall its a remove the tank and replace the PUMP/filter combo.

OkayIs it a big job to remove the tank? The car has only done 70,000 km, so it won't be relevant for a long time Thanks for your reply Kent

Unless it is different for the S600 W222, my S550 W222 fuel filter is accessible from under the passenger side rear seat. For the S550, the filter and pump are a consolidated unit, unlike my previous W221 chassis where the filter was on one side and the pump on the other.

Parts in hand, fuel tank no more than 1/4 full, this job takes less than an hour.

Toptier fuel is filtered to 10 microns at the dispensing pump, and in-tank filtering is about the same. So unless you're putting dirty fuel into your tank from gas cans, buying cheap gas or driving around on dusty roads without a gas cap, the fuel filter should not become a maintenance concern.

Yes I completely agree with this. However the fuel pump is a maintenance item at 100,000 miles, and so is the gasket for the top of the fuel pump which someday will start leaking.
When the fuel pump stops working the car just won't start, so for me it's preventative maintenance after 100,000 miles that's plenty of pumping for a little plastic fuel pump.

I’m right there with you..
preventative, pro active replacement at 100K makes sense to this old guy. At 77, the cost is inconsequential in the big picture. Peace of mind is a good investment.
Be well

I think the pump and filter are an integral component on my G -- replace one and you replace both. Not looking forward to it, as it's a tank drop on the G (I think). But I'm at 25K miles after 6 years, so by the time 100K rolls by, it'll be somebody else's weekend.

The fuel filter on a W222 S600 is part of the fuel pump module inside the tank no separate external filter. Replacement is rare but if needed, it’s around 100,000 miles or if issues arise.

OEM part number: A2224700101 (confirm with your VIN at a dealer or parts site). Requires dropping the tank or accessing via rear seat best left to a specialist.
