Never noticed this until now

Never noticed this before:

When using the console mounted suspension button (the one with the strut icon on the passenger side of the COMAND wheel), the suspension doesn't actually change to the selected mode, even though the red LEDs on the button light up for the various modes.
Suspension modes / drive mode selections work and stick when using the selector on the left side.

It's cute to see that you know what buttons I have in my 2018 S65 better than I do.

It's all good. The dashboard screen was pretty dusty, the AMG and V12 BITURBO are kinda' difficult to make out.

Is it confirmed to be intended behavior?

The video shows your suspension changing from Sport to Curve to Comfort while the drive mode itself remains in Comfort. What are you saying isn't working? It seems to be working as intended assuming that what we are not seeing in the video is you pressing the suspension button in the center console.

Correct. Pressing the suspension button in the center console brings up the "new" mode in the display, but it doesn't actually change to that mode, as evidenced by the "C" on the left side of the gear "N"eutral staying the same after each mode is shown on the display.
Using the "dynamic" switch on the left side changes the "C" to the next mode in line, "S", "S+", "CV", "I". then back to "C".

You are misunderstanding how this works. The C on the left side of the PRND is the overall drive mode. This only changes by using the drive mode selector on the driver side of your center console. Pressing the suspension button in the center console only changes the suspension. The drive mode also changes throttle map, shift program and steering in addition to the suspension. If you just change the suspension, then the throttle map etc. doesn't change. The drive mode is still in C as indicated, but the suspension is in whatever you select. It's kind of an on-the-fly individual mode. Once you've selected your overall drive mode, you can override the suspension using the suspension button. For example let's say you put the car in Sport+, but suddenly hit up a rough patch of road. So instead of putting the entire car back into Comfort mode, you can just put the suspension by itself in Comfort mode and everything else stays in Sport+.

Alright, that makes sense. it just controls the suspension mode while leaving the drivetrain in whatever mode is currently selected. Thank you for clarifying.

Don't feel bad about misunderstanding the buttons. I bought a W222 that literally didn't have the very option I wanted most because I didn't understand all the options and switches. You got a bonus, extra feature you didn't know about

No sir, I don't feel bad about that at all. Always happy to learn something new. I'm thankful @superswiss clarified it for me, though. Always wondered why Mercedes engineers decided to install two suspension centric buttons, thinking they did the same thing. Should have known the German engineers had a good reason for installing both.
As far as options go, I'm fairly certain mine has all but two options for that year: Ceramic Brakes and Chauffeur. But neither of those two options are something I yearned for, anyways. Then again, I could be wrong, it's happened three times in my life, before... or maybe it was four times...

Being wrong is quite rare for me as well…just twice…February 23, 1978 and October 12, 2001. 😉

Have to say, I've been using the strut (suspension change) button quite a bit in the past couple of days. Thank you again for the explanation, @superswiss .

2 auspicious dates, to be sure. Dates that well remembered usually coincide with women, cars, or houses. Possibly boats or aircraft as well.
The older I get, the more I forget dates associated with mistakes, and even forget the mistakes themselves. Getting old does have some benefits.
