Hate to be that guy

I hate to be that guy, as I have always said, I wouldn't come to a forum to help me make a decision but here I am. Was looking for a 2020 S560 but ran up on a 450 non CPO with 26k miles and the exact trim that I want. Dealership is asking for price after tax is 51K.

Can't think clearly if this is a good deal or not because I don't know much about the 450s versus the 560s and also I don't think I can see clearly because emotions are involved. Other cars that I saw were the same trim had mid 50K for around $39K.

Anything I could possibly get the dealership to negotiate on to make the deal sweeter?

What do you think? TiA

Price seems high. There's a new listing in the Chicago area for a 2020 S450 with 19k miles at $47k. I think realistically you should be able to snag that car at $44k. If not, walk away.

450 will be less problematic than 560, but also typically less fully optioned.

Price does seem a bit high, especially without CPO warranty. It was 2 years ago, but I got a nicely optioned ‘19 S450 with 32k miles and 9 months original warranty plus 12 months CPO for $49k.

That price is too high. You found the same car for $39k. Paying $12k more for just low miles is a bad deal.
The 450 is a V6. The 560 is a V8. It's a much smoother and more powerful drive. If you wanted a 560, you will regret the 450.
Tell the dealer to match the $39k price or add a CPO warranty for free. If they say no, walk away. Don't let the perfect trim trick you into a bad deal.

Thank you. Way to snap me out of it. Follow on question.
1. You are saying that 51K OTD with a CPO added would be a good?
2. What are your thoughts on a V8 with that mileage? As in is it too high?

I actually have to consider taking that particular one off the table now because the car facts says it has an accident reported from rear impact, But no damage, so that makes me leery. It's out of state.

ETA: can't thank you enough for the post. It really brought me back to reality to tone my emotion down

Thank you. I forgot to add the options list on OP. Thanks for the insight.

Definitely makes sense and to put things in perspective, I just found an S560 nonCPO with the same amount of miles for $49k. Not enthused about the trim, but definitely would have felt stupid if I bought the 450 for same price.

2018 S560
Yep way too high on the price. Go for a S560 even if it’s a 2019. At least the 2019 still has app support via Mercedes me unlike my 2018 which Benz is not gonna support the mbrace app it uses anymore the end of next month. I’d say the 2019 model year was the real sweet spot for the S560 probably the best S class ever built. The newer ones 2021 and up I’m not crazy about. I’d take a bmw 740 over them. If you’re really looking for a deal the bmws seem to depreciate really fast. With the v8 they’ve got around 100 more hp than the Benz s560
and are fun to drive if you can get use to the weird looks of the front end. Something to think about. If my 2018 S class were to get total’d I saw a used 2022 bmw 740 x drive for sale yesterday with 563 hp V8 for 30 grand. I thought maybe it was a salvage car or something for that price but nope clean title. The car did have 68k miles on it though.

2018 S560
I know on the 2020 E class Benz did some cost cutting so they probably did the same with the 2020 s class. Seems like that’s what it’s all about for Benz since the pandemic 2020 is cost cutting. They don’t make em like they use to so I think your doing a smart thing looking into a decent 2019 S560 even tough used cars have gone up so much from what they use to be.

When you get one just maintain the heck out of it and change all your fluids replace air filters cabin filter etc and make it a long term keeper. The paint and bodies on these cars hold up amazing. Do a search on www.autotrader for all 2019s S560s and prepare to travel and drive the car back if necessary for the right car you want.

My 2018 has all the options I was looking for including night vision and magic body control and 3d audio and magic sky. I can live without the app although the Mercedes me was nice on my 2019 e class I use to have. Cars this heavily optioned as mine are tough to find though. Good luck in your search.

before I read you last sentence, I was just thinking, 3D audio and Magic sky are individual unicorns. Finding both is insane.

2018 S560
Yep when I bought this car with 16k miles in 2021 for 75k in like new condition I rushed down to the dealer to close the deal. I had a 2017 s550 that I’d bought from the same dealer and traded that in for the s560. I was ill at the time but I wasn’t gonna let this car go. It’s a super unicorn. It’s also got the 12500 dollar option chauffeur package which I really didn’t need but nice to have. This ar looks pretty good. Maybe a little more miles than you’re looking for but the price is right. These cars are very solid and will go over 200k miles if take care of. I thought you would like this Used 2019 Mercedes-Benz S 560 Sedan for $33588 on Autotrader http://atcm.co/S2PVDP/2D5B28B6.

Nice!
Thank you for the link. However, it just takes me to the home page vs the actual listing.

FOR CLARITY:

I have gotten some good feedback but there was a bit of confusion with one of the responses so I wanted to clarify. Someone thought the price was $51K then taxes and fees would be added. Wanted to clarify the price from dealer is $47K. Once all taxes and fees are added, that brings the final price to $51K.

I realize the way I worded it in the original post may have caused confusion.

2018 S560
I’ll pm you the direct link to the dealer on that car I found. It’s fairly base not even sure if it’s got Distronic. Some people that’s a deal breaker not having that option. I’d say though yes get the V8 in a car like the S560 it’s really nice having all that extra torque and go power. The V6 TT is a great motor though had one in my 2019 E450 wagon that I wish I never sold.

Editing this to say car does have the Distronic can tell by looking at the picture of the steering wheel. It doesn’t have the amg line body appearance option but in some ways I always thought the car looked more sleek in the front end without it plus no Staggered tires to worry about so you can rotate them and get better tire life. The maintainence on the car is great. Looks like fairly new brakes all around and recent 60k service although the car only has 55k. Anyhow check your private messages.
