BlackBoost W222 Intake

Anyone running a BlackBoost intake? - Browsing online kind of thinking about it but it's so much money, i've also looked at Tuned Mercedes and their 3D printed intake but looks cheap but maybe i'm wrong.

Anyone running a BB intake or any? - I'm going to be soon doing a more a more aggressive Eurocharged tune file for approx 20-30 HP/TQ and I wouldn't mind looking into upgrading my Weistec drop in filters but the price of these intakes are outrageous and i'm no expert but 3D printing these and adding (2) filters which retail at $60USD each? Lol - I understand there's more to it then that but we can all agree at the high price is nuts.

Back to my original question. Anyone running an aftermarket intake on the W222? Any opinion? Did you notice a difference from the OEM airboxes and did you have your new intake tuned after installing and mainly.. Would you say these intakes were worth the price? I'm trying to find second hand to soften the blow but I do want to hear anyone else's opinion on here

Thanks everyone!

Is it ok to offer an opinion? If so here you go. Air boxes are a huge waste of money and energy. The only "real" benefit will bein the form of more intake noises in the car. You have turbo chargers, so they are sucking in all the air they want/need. I did cold air intakes on a couple japanese tuner cars years ago and they made no real difference, regardless of the manufacturer claims.
Here's a video that came out recently that explains it much better.

I think it's worth it if you're going down the full tuning route including full exhaust / down pipes, ECU/TCU tune. I'm also adding in performance engine coils and underdrive pullies.

I hear my exhaust in my car over the Blackboost GEN2 intake. I live in Japan, a few Japanese friends that installed Blackboost complained about burning more gas but that's about it. I personally never cared to monitor the difference.

In would tend to agree with you - that changing filters doesn’t do much - except for the M279 - if you have been following Fluidmotorunion drama with trying to get more power out of the V12 they certainly seem to hit the stock intake boxes being a restriction in pulling enough airflow into the motor:
.

notice also that all tuner that do list an upgrade path for this motor require a n airbox pretty early on - example:
https://www.gad-motors.de/50aqawgh9a...Fw217-s65-m279

As I have a tuned M279 - for OP’s original question. - yes I’m interested in an upgrade - preferably one that doesn’t cost $5k

Could you link to the 3d printed version?

I got into this with a bunch of DSM hot rodders in the 90s. They were all trying to get their Eagle Talon/Mitsu Eclipses into the 11's at the drag strip. What was found/proven was that different air intakes did nothing at the strip to improve ETs as the turbo and wastegate are going to be the gatekeepers of power. However, more than one person who did do the airbox mod/replacement talked about quicker turbo spool up on the street with a freer-flowing filter. Getting to full boost quicker during a street race was a big deal for some, so they kept the setups even as the other guys gave them crap about getting dirt in their motors from oiled cotton filters.

With our turbos being essentially part of the exhaust manifold, lag is essentially nil. No way I would mess with the factory air setup on an M157. This is FAR too expensive of a motor to F--- around with.

Funny...I was smack in the midle of that in the 90's and early 2000s with my MK3 Supra and 3000 GT VR4. I still have the original airboxes from both cars somewhere in my garage. Gutting the cats gave some real improvements, but the airboxes just made them sound better - intake noise was music to my young ears.
