Will keep my 2019 as long as I can (2-3 years, would be a new record) and will get something different.
Might want to hold out for longer... 2-3 is nothing! Might be awhile before we see another great S Class. Otherwise I could see many switching over to something else.

That touch screen....yeah not my favorite. What I really don't care for are those air vents. And that steering wheel. Us E-Class owners don't like that rear end either.

Well everyone, we are in for the long haul with our W222’s. Thank god I got the extended warranty. Honestly, I have no issue with the exterior. But that interior is GHASTLY! It will age horribly.I have had the past three generation S-Classes and one thing that an S Class should NEVER have is a steering wheel that could be found in a C or E class. Also, is that a plastic airbag cover on an S-Class???

Is it just me, or does this new car look narrower than our W222’s?

The driver instrument panel looks almost loose or crooked. I wish Mercedes would start making curved displays a la Taycan...
You can mix old world design, and still lead the world in tech. You don't need to design a spaceship to get there. I think most S class buyers would be perfectly happy with a Bentley level interior, with forward tech. THAT would be both defining and becoming of what the S is all about. Given a choice, which interior would you rather spend hours in? This however is an abomination. S was always evolutionary and somewhat of a stand alone in the MB lineup. This has pieces of GLE, B, E, Tesla and who know what else. What this design language shows me is that MB doesn't know how to integrate tech into design elegantly anymore. Just slap all that tech onto the interior.

As for the huge hole, that the least of their problems.

Congratulations Germancar1, you really nailed it!

This car had better be LIGHT YEARS greater than the current car and be able to make an amazing cappuccino, because if it can’t, it will take a long time to become appealing to me. Look at that speedo screen and that grill looks like it needs plastic surgery. As for the rear, are we sure this isn’t a rice burner???

A car
Like many here, I've been shocked at the W223 photos. However, may I please pay devil's advocate for just a moment? (please hear me out.)

When I was in the market for a flagship, as many of you know, there were two cars that seriously surprised me wrt 'belief' versus 'reality'. Namely, the 2018 LS500 and the 2019 Audi A8L. I will say this and I think it's worth maybe sharing on here. Both cars were ones that I was incredibly disheartened to see 'online' when they came out. To me, the previous gen LS and A8 were beautiful cars and at the time of seeing both of these cars online, I was upset, mad, even.

But sure - I gave them the benefit of the doubt, and went to go and see them in person. In both cases, I was blown away actually and in a good way. Now, it's pointless trying to convince anyone that both of these cars will 'stand the test of time' or would be considered 'old school luxury meets new world charm', because they aren't - they're more 'modern' takes on luxury. To me, the Flying Spur is next on my -to buy list - I think it looks beautiful.

Without these two experiences with these two cars, there's no chance I would have given the W223 any hope in hell as being a car that I might eventually 'fall in love with', although, to be fair, the probability of that is about 1%.

The A8 stands out to me (trying to remove personal bias here) even today. In the car, I love the interior. I love the MMI. Now, would I take a photo of it and post it here for comparison? No - because it doesn't do it any justice in photo form, and even I will be the first to admit that. - same with the LS - very nice in person, but in photo form = ugly.

Who knows? Maybe the 223 will end up surprising some of us?

This rendering looks off if you look at the actual bodywork and how the nose sticks out, protruding forward.

If it looked like this - it would be quite nice. But this looks more like a W222 than the bodywork spyshots of a W223

What is that large, glossy expanse in front of the passenger seat? Another touch screen or just a mass of black plastic? The more I look at this, I just can’t believe that it is a fully finished, ready for market product. Maybe it is a very late prototype, with more interior bits and finishing touches to come. Maybe?

Also - they have that black screen on the front grille which I understand but they couldn't integrate a camera or sensor better? There is literally nothing symmetric or right about this.

My biggest problem is that the driver instrument panel looks like it is straight out of an A class

Who is this dude? Is he Chinese? Is this a Chinese knockoff and we are all ranting on a knocked off car? Why would they allow their flagship car to be in a parking lot / scrap yard without security to stop the photographers? Something doesn't smell kosher.

That grille actually doesn't look too bad compared to what has been posted before.

even if they still add stuff, with the general design I don’t like it. I’m one of the younger s class buyers (29) but I bought a s63 for the luxury of it and the amg for the sports. If I wanted this I would have gotten a Tesla. I love big screens like the current w222 has. Not this. To add, the seats could be the must luxurious seat to exist but the dash stull
ruins it. Sad

Testing in China, no doubt. The Chinese influence these cars a lot so a lot of testing is done there. (think massive grills - all of that is driven by their tastes). Maybe someone got paid off to leak these photos. Doesn't seem unrealistic to me.

I don't know but it looks like he just passed black gas. Must have eaten some bad bats last night. Anyway, I'm on my 5th shot of bourbon and coke and this car ain't gettin' any better lookin'. This will be worse than the W220 at this rate. The W221 and W222 will be a popular used car in the future if this stays as it is. Anyone know how to get an extended 300K mile warranty? The HUGE BMW grille doesn't look as bad as it once did after looking at this car.

That's probably the wood trim that will will accent the interior. Even with bits and fishes to add, the design language falls flat. This is bad. Also, I can't help but think GLE when I see those center vents.

Speaking of BMW, this will probably contribute to an uptick in 7 sales.

The internet is afire right now lol. Ahh....a new S-Class leaks. I truly believe that most will be in love with this car when it hits showrooms. It will of course move the bar in so many ways, but for me personally I hope the quality and drive are improved, not that there is anything wrong with the W222, but for the sake of convincing buyers to accept these dramatic new changes. I don't like the rear end treatment either, but I'm open minded about the interior. I can't wait to see the official pics in different colors, read all the specs and tech, get the model lineup. I am betting the Maybach treatment of this car will be epic.

Great points! But if it not the new S? What is it? From where? Some parts of this look like they come from MB. The leather seats look to be of good quality in the pics.

W220 from 2000-2002. Just awful. Things got MUCH better from 2003-2006.
